We could say XM is a villain for half of the drama. He did things out of control, later revealed why he did those and gave him redemption arc. For 2nd tribulation, it's like the King was scared of the constant power rising of Lu Family (first with LCK's father and then LCK), thought Lu family might commit treason. LCK's father already knew it and carefully attempted his son to stay out of spotlight and future trouble.
I hope they will change the English title when it airs. Because this current title is so similar with "fighting for love" drama which had aired early this year. Viewers might get confused between the two. I prefer the novel title "Mountain and River Pillow". Can they keep that one for the drama title?
