Today I finally completed reading novel 执梭师 "The Shuttle Master" and honestly, I don’t even know how to describe how incredible this story was. This novel is insanely good. The plot, the emotions, the time travel, the misunderstandings, the sacrifices, the different timelines, and the way everything slowly connects together completely pulled me in. Even after finishing it, I still feel emotionally attached to these characters and I don’t think I’ll forget this story anytime soon.
What hurts me the most is the female lead. I genuinely feel so bad for her. She tried so hard and did so much just to protect the person she loved. She sacrificed years of her life, stayed by his side without being recognized, protected him from the shadows, helped him survive, helped him become the emperor, raised their daughter, and continued loving him even when he had completely forgotten who she was. She had so many chances to reveal the truth, but she kept choosing to stay silent because she wanted to protect him and their daughter.
She didn’t just lose the person she loved once. She kept losing him again and again. She loved him when they were young, was separated from him, met him again under another identity, watched him love someone else, and then had to stand beside him while hiding the truth about who she really was. The fact that the person she loved was right in front of her but couldn’t recognize her was honestly heartbreaking. I can’t imagine how painful that must have been for her.
What makes her story even more tragic is how hard she worked to change his fate. She saved him, protected him, helped stop the conspiracies against him, helped him become the crown prince, and sacrificed herself to remove the threats surrounding him. She was constantly fighting and protecting everyone while carrying all her pain alone. She deserved so much happiness after everything she did.
And after all of that, she still died. This honestly broke my heart. She spent so many years trying to protect the person she loved and their daughter, but she never got the peaceful life she deserved. She deserved to grow old with him. She deserved to be loved openly and to have him know everything she had done for him. Instead, she carried all that pain by herself until the end.
Chapter 32 was especially painful. When Xiao Yi finally discovered that Yuan Yi, A Qiao and Jiang Wan were all the same woman, and that Zhi He was actually his daughter, I could really feel his regret. He had spent so many years searching for the woman he loved without realizing that she had been beside him all along. He finally understood everything, but by then it was too late. That part genuinely hurt me so much.
I also really loved the way this novel explored love, regret, fate and missed opportunities. It wasn’t just a romance. It was about two people who loved each other deeply but kept missing each other because of circumstances, misunderstandings, different identities and time itself. The idea that they could keep meeting each other across different timelines was beautiful but also incredibly painful.
And now I seriously have only one thing to say. I REALLY REALLY WANT ZHAO LUSI TO ACT IN THIS NOVEL. I can genuinely imagine her playing Yuan Yi, A Qiao and Jiang Wan. This role would require an actress to show so many different sides of the same woman, from an innocent young girl to A Qiao, then the mature and intelligent Yuan Yi, a loving mother, a skilled doctor and finally a woman who has spent decades carrying love, loneliness, pain and regret.
I really think Zhao Lusi could make this character unforgettable. I can already imagine her expressions in the scenes where Xiao Yi doesn’t recognize her, when she secretly watches him, when she is with their daughter, when she finally reunites with him and especially when he discovers the truth. Those scenes could be absolutely heartbreaking if they were done properly.
The male lead’s perspective at the end made everything even more painful. Seeing Xiao Yi finally understand that the woman he had been searching for had actually been beside him all those years was devastating. His regret was so painful because he didn’t just lose A Qiao. He lost all those years when he could have loved her, recognized her and appreciated everything she had done for him.
I finished this novel today, but honestly I don’t feel ready to leave these characters behind. The female lead especially will stay in my mind for a long time because she loved so deeply, sacrificed so much and endured so much loneliness, yet she still kept going and protecting the people she loved.
Since Lusi’s studio has already bought the rights to this novel, I’m really hoping they will turn it into a drama that truly does justice to the story and its characters. We still don’t know whether Zhao Lusi will actually play the female lead or if she will only be involved as the producer, but honestly, I really, really hope she takes the role herself. I genuinely can’t imagine anyone better suited for Yuan Yi, A Qiao and Jiang Wan. I desperately want to see Lusi bring this character’s entire journey to life on screen.
