Xuanhuan is a broad and flexible Chinese fantasy genre that blends traditional Chinese elements with imaginative and original worldbuilding. Unlike Xianxia, it does not strictly follow Taoist cultivation, immortality, or classic mythological structures.

Instead, Xuanhuan allows authors to create unique power systems, magical worlds, and diverse settings that may combine Eastern and Western fantasy elements — though this is not required.

The genre often features cultivation, but in a more creative and less rule-bound way compared to Xianxia. Because of this freedom, Xuanhuan is considered a modern evolution of Chinese fantasy, offering more flexibility than the more traditional Xianxia and Wuxia genres.

I think this genre gets few dramas a year; it's usually more xianxia and wuxia, and we forget that xuanhuan exists.

Interestingly, this drama isn't xianxia; it's xuanhuan, a mix of foreign elements and Chinese characters. Xianxia features many gods, martial arts rules, and full power. The xuanhuan genre is simpler, with the ghost world and the human world clearly separated. It's also a good introduction for those unfamiliar with the genre.

I also like the tone of the drama; the director said he would explore the sounds and the more supernatural vibe, and I love the personalities of the protagonists.

I think that because she's very famous in China, the hate is more pronounced, and also the fandom wars with actresses of this new generation. I don't understand how people say she can't act. I met her in 2020 in the drama "Eternal Love Dream," and she doesn't deserve this hate. If you see behind the scenes, she puts in so much effort. For the police drama, she trained everything about policing and did six months of training. For "Love Turquoise Land," she trained the movements and overcame her fear of going into the water. In 90% of the drama's scenes, she didn't use a stunt double. That's why she's so beloved in China. She's so dedicated to her roles and so humble on set; it doesn't even seem like you're talking to a star. Besides, she's always sweet to us fans and always interacts. She deserves the world.

I like the ghost world, but thankfully we're going to see more of the human world now. I want to see more of Duan Xu in battle.

I understand why she did that, but we know it doesn't work very well in practice because she'll have to keep an eye on our Duan Xu again and end up getting involved again, whether she wants to or not. Even though Simu doesn't fully show her feelings for Duan Xu, she truly loves him passionately. I want to see how things will be after this.

After episode 21, I understand Simu, although I don't like this whole memory erasure thing. I understand her concern, but it's sad because she clearly loves Duan Xu. We know she acts tough, but she loves her human, Duan Xu. She truly loves him; the connection she has with him is so deep. I like this drama; the romance is cliché but at the same time it isn't; it's slow burn and at the same time it isn't. I'm enjoying it. I want to know how Simu will deal with Duan Xu going to the human world.

Seriously though, putting aside the comedies and such, episode 3 of this drama was so profound, I cried at 3 significant moments. What a wonderful drama!

Excuse me, but once again I have to praise the wonderful direction and editing, the CGI, and the OSTs, especially the main song sung by Huang Xiaoyun – that song is so powerful. I'm completely in love with the aesthetics of this drama.

I know that even if Duan Xu becomes immortal or Simu becomes human, for me it would be coherent. I don't want a sad ending. Simu deserves a happy ending. 400 years alone and without feeling love, despite her 22 other lovers, she seems to truly love Duan Xu. I really want a happy ending for both of them.

This episode 21 scared me, thank goodness it's a dream. Spoiler alert: in the novel it's a happy ending, I won't accept them changing the ending =d I would be very sad.
