I'm really loving this drama. It's a nice break from the usual (and often unrealistic) fluff and portrayals normal c-dramas tend to veer towards. Both leads, and even the premise, are so refreshing.
As opposed to the usual all-ice-no-personality male leads, Yu Tu is *so* real. Not all of us have the confidence, nor the resources, to risk it all in pursuit of our dreams. The fact that he's a genius but doesn't have to be "perfect" all the time makes the character very convincing and the dynamics very different.
Jing Jing, on the other hand, might seem like a typical FL at first glance, but I'm so glad to find out that that isn't the case. She *thinks*. She's not boring, she's not a Mary Sue, she's not irrational and uber-persistent to the point of annoying (with the drama masquerading it as being 'strong-willed'). She liked a guy in high school, she confessed, she got rejected, and she moved on. 10 years later, she didn't have typical c-drama thoughts to get revenge, prove something, or chase him again. She just happens to meet her first love, exhibits *normal* human reactions (feeling giddy, wanting to meet him, etc); she needs help playing a game and rekindles her love for him in the process.
It's cute and SO different. It's not boring because of those 2 reasons at all :) Tons of c-dramas in this genre are basically a copy-paste of each other (you know it's true), but this one is not at all like that, so consider giving it a chance!
1) Can anyone explain what happened during Episode 16 preview? Was wondering about their friends' reactions now that the fact that the leads are close was publicized (because of the tournament). 2) Do you guys know what chapter is Episode 10 in the novel?

That might not register as much since the media only covers the hate part (which sucks, ik). It's known more for that. The cast and staff even had to make a statement about it.
I know it's pessimistic but yeah, just trying to play devil's advocate here. I wish they would make a 2nd season but with how things are, there's a slim chance.
On the other hand, if it continues to blow up internationally, China might look at that angle and push for a 2nd season like what they did with Well-Intended Love (which I didn't like, but heyy, it was popular thanks to the Netflix push).

Damn. That sucks, given the role FL played with the Xu Tai Lun stuff. The blame ultimately goes to him but... that's just sad for them, especially because they cheered and defended FL during past episodes.

I dropped this drama at episode 8, I didn't feel the chemistry between the leads. Xu Kai didn't seem confortable…
Yeah her acting isn't the best but imo the best thing about this show is the leads' chemistry. I thought that was the general opinion but people do have different tastes so it's fine!
The OST line-up is PERFECT. I want to download them all but they're all greyed out (not available) in my country's Spotify, unlike other c-drama OSTs :/
