Can someone tell me why Yamazaki Kento/Kugayama Shusei is a supporting character and not a main character?

I'm hoping this is kind of similar to Skate Into Love cause I really liked that show!

I just watched the second episode and the ending gives me Hotel Del Luna vibes.
