I loved this series but I wish they would have hugged in the final scene, I cannot believe that all 3 of them would just stand there and just look at each other. Yes In the book I got a creepy vibe from Joe liking these young boys. Plus in the novel Ming never lied or gave him any type of hope that he even liked him. The parts were I did think he was worst was the r*pe and hiding his face like you said.
