True, isn't it better to actually know what the problems are, rather then it be something discreet that SS only finds out once she's married? She can never know for sure. There are million ways in which a marriage destroy itself, not all of them are obvious or even there from the get go

No one actually knows if any marriage will work out. Just because a family or a guy does not have any visible problems, doesn't mean there aren't any. Any marriage, even the happiest one can go down the drain is couple of years. You either go for it and trust that you'll be able to bear it, or stay alone forever. Mom is not a prophet, she will never know for sure and she can't live SS's life for her. And it's not actually the sentiment that I'm objecting to, if it actually looked like she was trying to protect CSS instead of ruining her life, I would understand. But she, quite literally, almost destroyed her daughter's reputation.

I mean, what more does she need? An honored general, favored by the Emperor, as his own son, dream guy of every girl in town, said he will love Shaoshang no matter what. And mom be like "this is a bad idead it won't work, don't come crying to me afterwards". Even if it doesn't work, mom'll be the last person she goes to.

Also, "his family is complicated" excuse is not valid, because LBY is a grown man who lives in his own house, and doesn't actually interact with his father unless forced to. And his mom is like, a little crazy, but actually seems nice. So, bull, mom, stop making up excuses why you feel the need to constantly humiliate your kid

And if it's LBY she's so afraid of, there are other ways to refuse that don't involve humiliating her daughter. If they are exiled and stripped of titles no one in Cheng family will be able to marry.

Mom is very extreme, especially with how everyone tries to excuse her behavior as "her way of showing love". If this is love, what happens to people she hates? If she was even a little less... cruel, it would have worked, but at this point, there's just no excuse.

That scene at the palace was awful, what mother would insult her daughter like that even in front of the Emperor. You're right, she won't listen and won't behave in general, but if she has the knowledge how to behave, she can at last not embarrass herself. Though, imho, mom was the one embarrassing herself this time.

It matters because her mother is constantly insulting her and acting all embarrassed on her behalf, because "she hasn't been taught well", but doesn't actually do anything to mitigate it except berating her in public. Sure, we know all is going to be well and Emperor won't be offended, but the sheer hypocrisy is annoying.

Yeah, if the story works for you, then you definitely should watch. I, personally, can deal with cheap production if the story and acting is good. IS type of drama are just not my thing, I prefer either mindless action, a well thought out twisted plot or realistic down to earth romance. For flowy cutesy xianxia I need to reeeaaly like the actors. Lol

I haven't watched IS (my comment was in general about Youku production, judging by their other dramas I've tried to watch. Dropped all of them, btw) and after all the comments here and the snippets I've seen, I probably won't. It looked like another cutesy FL, domineering ML in flowy costumes kind of bs, with no actual plot involved. But I could not even get through the first episode of TWB, everything was so garish and ridiculous.

Yeah, and if Tencent can get the budget they usually spend it well. LLTG is a good example, they had big names, so they got the money and the quality shows. Youku goes: we have Dilireba, fans will watch anyway, who cares

Actors and actresses are rarely a problem, unless they're just hiring idols with no experience, but that's rare these days. Youku's production though... blegh. Tencent at last makes an effort, when they can get big budget they go all out (most of the time). Youku's dramas are just soooo bad: screenwriting, costumes, cgi. Everything that you listed, actors can't save it for me, when it's so cheap and lazy

Considering how cheap Youku usually is that's not that big of an endorsement

Youku's cheap, they get even worse when they have big names or big IP, they just stop making any effor, because "fans will watch anyway"
