People just see the forced marriage but failed to understand the era of the story, a real pity. Looking at this drama from a modern time lens would just not work, it would spoil the entire thing!

Does someone know when the scene of Jinqi requesting the edict from the Emperor happens, I saw until ep 27 and I did not see it but I believe that the trailer had the scene. Any idea why it is not here yet or did they cut it?

My dear we are talking a previous dynasty, do you have any idea what it means to be a woman then, much less a maid who just got her freedom. Yes lanxiang saved the Lins but even then it was not necessary for Masters to free their slaves for that. They were treated as commodities not humans. They live or die for their masters and they are entirely at their disposal. Remember what the Shen father says about slaves in the 1st episode? It's there in the script for a reason. They are similar to livestock in that era just like how today you wouldn't go and ask a chicken, shall I eat you or should I consider your feelings? Lin Jinqi letting her go free and not taking her as a concubine but main wife itself is a huge upgrade impossible in ancient times. You have to consider the era in which they lived, if you can't get that then you are more suited to modern dramas not the period ones.

Trust me I've never done this for any drama before and I've been watching C dramas for a decade now but today I took work from home and juggled all my meetings just to watch. Didn't even have the patience to wait till evening 😒

I can't help but love Mother Lin at episode 27 don't know how she is gonna act later but episode 27 she nailed it. Despite what the Lins are a beautiful family together ❤️
