Fair enough, but that applies more to dramas than movies. People have higher standards for something they're paying over 10 bucks to see.

I mean, a basic story can still be done well. There's got to be a reason why it's popular in the first place right?

WOW the most basic storyline ever and its popular of course
The IMDb synopsis may be more intriguing. "A mystery thriller about a real estate agent who secretly enters clients' homes and becomes obsessed with a deceptive social media influencer. The film explores themes of obsession, identity, and the dark side of social media." It still doesn't sound too original but I wanna watch it for the leads anyway lol.

Title The Plot
Reviews in Korea are not looking good 👀
I guess this is why Kang Dongwon is taking on a drama. His movie career has gone downhill and this one seems like his biggest flop in a while.

How's this doing at the Korean box office?
It did decently well for the first 2 days but that's partly because it was a public holiday yesterday. The reviews in SK are mixed rn (a CGV egg index of 81 is actually not too good), so we need to see if it maintains the momentum this weekend.

This is apparently quite well-received. It got over 1 million viewers, which is pretty good for a low budget film. Hope this comes to my local theatres.

3 episodes in, it's pretty entertaining but hasn't impressed me. The metaphors and humour are very in-your-face and falls flat sometimes. There are hardly any subtleties here. Most characters are also bordering on stereotypes.

Title The Atypical Family Spoiler
The first episode was okay, though the portrayal of the sister with bulimia felt a bit insensitive. Some of the background music choices were odd to me. But it started getting more interesting when they revealed that she was actually a scammer, I wasn't expecting that.

Title Exhuma
Definitely solid and well made, but lacks a bit of punch and impact at the climax. I also felt that more character building would have added to the story. But it's easy to see why this had more mass appeal than others in the genre. The main characters work in a team and share a camaraderie. It's definitely an "easier" watch that isn't nearly as nerve racking and stress inducing as say, The Wailing, where you're second guessing people's intentions. The second half felt especially like watching a western film to me.

This is straight up a wattpad fanfic at this point. The kind of story that needs to stay on wattpad, instead of being a high budget production with an A-list cast. I have already stopped taking it seriously for several episodes.

I see what you mean by the disconnect, but I'm pretty sure they'll unfold those details as we watch. We can already…
That's a good point. I kinda forgot these characters are pretty young and young people can rush into marriage. If it's a story about actually getting to understand each other on a deep level, rather than reconciliation and reconnecting broken bonds, then that justifies the disconnection at the start. Though imo that's a pretty unrealistic scenario for a couple on the brink of divorce (not that any of us are watching these shows for realism lol). I guess that's why the terminal illness is needed. It's just another plot device to force the couple to be physically together.

Title Queen of Tears Spoiler
I'm honestly surprised I didn't like these first 2 episodes. I think it's a sense of disconnect here. Firstly, I don't see a "we used to love each other but not anymore" vibe from their interactions. It looks a lot more like "we were forced to get married and we barely even know each other" to me. Something just doesn't feel convincing. If I try to explain it, it's like the difference between a broken connection and the connection not existing at all. Throughout the 2 episodes, it just felt like the latter. It's not on the actors. I think it's the writing.

And then there's the very odd choice of morbid humor that people have already mentioned. I know it's a romcom that's not meant to be taken seriously. But telling me the guy literally can't stop himself from smiling when she's about to die, that's reallyyy pushing it. I know it's dark comedy but it's really not working in the story's favor. These people are supposed to get back together and we need to root for them. They jolly well have a good reasoning for that which... for now, I don't see it at all.

And this is petty, but the 2nd episode felt too long (it was, 1.5h is almost a movie's length). I was checking to see when it would end. The thing is I don't find any character particularly likeable here. Most of the supporting characters are the default antagonistic family members with dollar signs in their eyes and it's tiring to watch.

Seeing how high the TV ratings are, it might just be my personal taste. But I was expecting to like this more than I actually did. PJE isn't my favorite writer but most of her hits charmed me at least in the first episodes. I'll give this a couple more episodes.

Yes, you missed something. There were subtle reactions by the FL to various things Kiwan said and did. You missed…
Of course, I did see details like them exchanging looks and their attitudes towards each other changing (I wasn't very convinced because they barely even knew each other). And I might have missed subtleties too, like any other normal viewer. That doesn't invalidate my opinion that the romance started almost out of the blue without any real connection between them (apart from nationality/language) and felt almost incredulous to watch. Despite the actors themselves being quite convincing, the romance didn't have a proper development.

Title My Name Is Loh Kiwan Spoiler
I'm sorry but I had a hard time taking the plot seriously. On one hand, we have a ML experiencing very real struggles as a defector and refugee. Then on the other, we have a rebellious wealthy FL who's a drug addict. The two characters couldn't be more incompatible. I mean, they were direct representations of third world and first world problems. Didn't help how cliche and borderline ridiculous the FL's gangster shooting arc was. I actually like the actress but Marie was basically a spoilt brat with a very one-dimensional backstory that is somehow supposed to justify her actions. Her character is barely even likeable so I don't know how we're expected to root for her.

Forget that, how the romance began was even more ridiculous. She stole his wallet, returned it, then he brought her to his dorm and cooked for her. And... now they're in love? I wondered if I missed something. Did he fall for her just because she was the first korean he met? It even would have made more sense if he fell in love with the factory co-worker. She was actually sweet enough to share her pork with him.

I think this series is doing to Song Ha Yoon what The Glory did to Im Ji Yeon. She is doing such a great job as…
If I'm being completely honest, I didn't see what people were raving about for IJY's performance in The Glory. She played the villain cartoon-ishly, and wasn't as intimidating as the younger version of her character. I'm not saying she isn't a good actress though (she is good in other shows I've seen her in). SHY on the other hand is who's making this show entertaining for me.

Yeah same. This show seems to be a lil boring now :/
It was refreshing in the beginning. Now they're making both leads less likable (when ML was already bland to begin with), which is a very stupid move. Plus they're shoving in a totally useless and uninteresting villain. It's a big fail if your audience doesn't care about the villain they're supposed to hate. I'm still here to watch 2FL's snake eyes and crazy tantrums.

I started losing interest in this show a couple of episodes back but I'm still invested thanks to the 2FL. She's the most interesting character and the actress plays her snake personality so well. I'm almost rooting for her at this point because she's the only reason I'm watching lol.

Title Doctor Slump
His case it really not burn out or depression but it is still a downfall for some reasons. It is intriguing.
It will be more dramatic and take more screen time than FL's story for sure. I guess the writers needed a mystery element like those serial killer plots. Instead of "who is the killer", it's "who set up the ML" here.

Title Doctor Slump
The FL is going through a depressive phase that is somewhat relatable to many of us, but what happened to the ML is way too severe to be described as just a "slump". The first episode was fine, but I'm not sure if I'll like watching how his scandal will play out.
