Episode 7 - First scene: late night. (Yi kisses Plaengrak's cheek goodnight and goes home by himself because there's no healthy sex life in this corner of the BL universe.) (P's ex-boyfriend, the one with cheap soap bitch vibes, the one Y learned everything about some 2 episodes before, storms past Y out of nowhere and tries to kiss P. P clearly rebuffs him and runs to Y.) P: It's not what you think. I'm telling the truth! Y (crying, drooling, and risking serious Botox intervention in the near future): Even if nothing can happen between us, I'm fine with it. (P cries, drools, and risks serious Botox intervention in the near future as Y walks away from him.)
Me (after watching the scene twice to check if I got it right): Drugs.
Kudos to the director and writers of this. It’s not perfect but then what is? It’s certainly engaging, they believe in their premise, you have a sense of character and narrative development, and you can see there’s care and heart involved. The actors got a chance to try different acting muscles, and even the tiniest character is interesting. By episode 5, I was already rolling my eyes at Vice Versa. Here? I want to see what happens next.
Silly me. It took me 9 episodes to understand why they’re showing an “uncut version”: for two-and-a-half minutes KFC infomercials, two-minute Gatorade-drinking-thing product placement jokes, and a post-credit Lays chips story! It’s probably a world record. I really hope GMMTV fans are buying all this stuff (they’re certainly buying into the series). As for me, all I’ve got is psychosomatic high cholesterol from seeing all that greasy chicken.
(PS: Yes, by now I’m just anger-watching this show, which is fun in its own way. It’s like doomscrolling but with nice production values and actors trying their best.)
(PS2: For those few who are reading this and wondering whether they should start watching, I’d say you should move on to GMMTV’s own The Eclipse for a nicely developed premise, Unforgotten Night for well-done trash, or My Secret Love for competently scripted, character-driven, old-fashioned fluff.)
Why isn’t this series called The Loop? It goes on and on forever without ever going forward. It's the first (and second) time I sleep while watching a BL series, and believe me I've seen Top Secret Together until the end, which says a lot about my resilience.
GMMTV is a funny place: they’ve already proved they can do natural intimacy (Bad Buddy, Not Me, Friend Zone 2…). But lately they’ve retreated to their gay-panicky ways.
The last two episodes were exhausting. They take lack of communication and cluelessness to a level that’s not funny anymore. Senpai, this ain’t love; it’s audience torture. It’s too much anal retentiveness for a single series.
PS: Not to mention the wasted opportunities. They place Yanase ALONE IN KANEDA’S APARTMENT FOR THE WHOLE NIGHT and he doesn’t even take a peek at the ‘forbidden’ calendar or the shrine while he’s there. Even bubbly Thai BL Secret Crush on You addressed a similar plot point.

Boyfriend: “Are you challenging me?”
