Luo Yunxi looks haggard in the beginning of the drama because that is how his character is supposed to look. He was a hostage prince who was ill treated all his life, beaten and starved. I thought he looked the part. My heart went out to him.
Also, maybe you did not know that Luo Yunxi was injured prior to the filming of this drama. He took about a week of medical leave before coming on the set to work. I doubt he was fully recovered at that point. He had a big bruise on his face and he had been on a liquid diet for a week which resulted in him being extra skinny and needing extra makeup to hide his injuries.
Luo Yunxi looks gorgeous in both costume and modern wear. Not every actor can carry off a costume look. He is a beautiful man. But hey, attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder. So no worries. You do you. Cheers!
