TTJ was LSS's job assignment. Do remember that LSS, coming from her timeline in the future, hates the Devil God as he had killed her dad and many of her fellow disciples and friends. TTJ was the human form of the Devil God before he actually became the Devil God.
LSS had to make her assignment (Devil God human version) grow love threads. Being lovey dovey with someone she hates, is not something comfortable for anyone to do. As such, it will feel fake, because in the beginning, LSS felt no love for TTJ, he was an assignment, a job. But along the way, she unknowingly fell for TTJ when she saw his backstory, his potential for good and his actions showed her he cared. In one of the later episodes, LSS says that how could she not love TTJ when he loves her so deeply. (Residents, a little help here, which is the specific episode where LSS says this? ) Also, LSS struggled a lot with her feelings for TTJ as ultimately, she had to kill him to save the 3 realms. So that made her blow hot and cold. Her work assignment had become something personal. Tough!
As for Ye Xiwu, you could say she was the "prototype" of LSS. She was as nasty as can be 500 years in the past. LSS can be considered the "refined" later version 500 years later. When LSS took over YXW's body, she still had to maintain some aspects of YXW. Much like a spy, she could not have her cover blown by being totally different from YXW. But she put a stop to the bullying of TTJ in the Ye family ensuring he was fed, clothed warmly and protected from family or servants who wanted to bully him for sport.
Hope that helped put things into perspective about the cold romance bit. After all, LSS did have TTJ's child. I guess that cannot happen unless she truly loved him. And in the novel, LSS goes looking for TTJ after the destruction of the All Grieving Way. Finally, after 1000 years, LSS, TTJ and their daughter were finally united as a family and lived happily ever after.
