1) Actors don't want to get too tied up with a specific co-star. If they get too associated with or limited to being someone's lover, it would be hard for the actor to do other romantic roles. Also, they may get typecasted.They want the freedom to do any project.
2) This reason is mainly for idol actors…….. because there's a strong fandom culture in Korea so it's always better for stars to be seen as single.
Idols have some toxic fans who are very protective of their favorites, but actors generally have more chill fandoms. I think this is another way to keep that fan culture and prevent toxic fans/shipping. Eg: #haesoo
It’s also a hindrance for the actors honestly cuz once they pair up with others repeatedly , their fans go crazy and are also actors who hate the shipping and rumours and probably want to avoid encouraging that.
3) Actors themselves probably want fresh pairings as well as its new and inspiring, considering each production often takes months.
4) Production team might be wary of - comparisons. there's too big of an impression from an old drama, people might have expectations or preconceptions prior to starting a new drama.
5) Probably behind the scenes stuff (eg : Time drama ),Schedules. Popularity. If actors are already signed on to other things, even if a drama becomes popular, they can't shoot for next one together. Separate contracts. Pay discrepancies. Tons of variables involved because each production takes a lot of time unlike Cdramas and Thai drama…
So, finally repeat Actor-Actor pairing is very minimal in K drama Actor - Idol pairing is null to negligible. Fans are lucky if we can see great pairings again and I do like that a repeat pairing , BUT people just invite comparisons to the original work that way. Besides, there are so many actors and actresses out there, variety is good.
