She actually explains it to you in that same episode though.

She reached Core Formation three separate times. I do not know how familiar you are with the concept of cultivation.

What she was telling us in that moment is that even though she was gifted in cultivation, she could not make peace with her Dao Heart because of the injustice in the world. In the past, on three separate occasions, she interfered with mortal-world events (we don't know what they were), which caused her cultivation to drop and forced her to climb back up.

This basically tells us that it is within her nature to do so. That is why when Lu Qian Qiao found out about it, he was shocked. Even he did not think she would be like this.

O I know, trust me when you read the novel and you see how it ended.

I think you would see what a mistake it was to take the story the way it did.

The novel is pretty old at this point like 15 year old, you can just google search for an english translastion

Well, to Rebirth’s defense, they did not really remake that specific scene. What was shown was only used to narratively explain what happened. As you point it out, yes there was alot of emotion weight behind that scene.

Even the events leading up to that point were crucial, but at that stage, why not just remake PA?

That is why continuity is such a big thing, and one of the biggest reasons Rebirth turned out the way it did. Certain things needed setup, which in the novel had already been established prior to those events.

PA is really a story of Chu Qiao’s journey and growth, so to be dropped into what is basically considered the climax is difficult, as Chu Qiao’s character really changes after this point.

The Chu Qiao in the part of the novel that Rebirth covers is barely the same Chu Qiao we see in Rebirth. A majority of the events in Rebirth deal with Chu Qiao and Zhuge Yue’s relationship, and how it almost becomes a reverse mirror of Yan Xun and Chu Qiao in PA.

But since we are only shown bits and pieces of Yan Xun and Chu Qiao’s relationship prior to the Ice Lake in Rebirth, there was almost nothing to contrast it with. Then there the obvious reason why we cant really have that, because of the female lead and they could not do certain things.

But it is sad to see, since they knew what the 80+ chapters of Rebirth would cover, that they did not consider a different option for the actress.

"Like the mountain of corpses example I keep giving"

Just so you know that actually happen in the novel,

As for actions for Li Ce and his Mother was all made up in a sense . Her role in the novel was very limited. They expended on it by themself. Moving things around and changes thing, but the event does happen in the novel.

I don't disagree with most of what you say. Rebirth wasn't that great of a drama, even if I didn't read the novel. But since I know what happens in the novel, it is comparatively worse because I know how Zhuge Yue's character arc ends.

If you are interested in the novel, I wrote up a discussion about it, or you can read it yourself.

I really enjoy the novel, and I think it captures more than both PA and Rebirth managed to do.

As someone who didn't watch Princess Agents, this is so hard to watch but I'm trying my best to understand what's…
I have not watched PA, so the things I know about PA are from other people’s recaps. I did, however, read the entirety of the novel to get a better understanding of Rebirth.

1. It is a sequel in a sense that it picks up where PA ended. However, certain things in PA do not appear in Rebirth. Like her special ice power is a big one that people mention, and certain character who got kill are alive again.

2. Yes, the part where she was a slave is a thing in both PA and the novel. Where it differs is that in PA she was trained by Zhuge Yue to be a slave, which Rebirth continues. The Novel she was reborn into the current world, where she retain her memory of being a special force agent.

What is consistent at the start of Rebirth is that events follow pretty similarly to the novel, PA covers 190+ chapters of the novel, while Rebirth covers 80+ chapter til the end.

So as you watch Rebirth closer to the end, events are distorted, and things are changed for the dramatic ending.

While PA also changed things compared to the novel, it still largely follows the series of events in the novel.

I will mention that knowing what happened in Chu Qiao’s journey, and how her interactions with Yan Xun and Zhuge Yue shaped her, does in fact help you understand why she acts the way she does in Rebirth.

On Fate Chooses You Apr 30, 2026
Watched up to episode 14 so far,

Didn’t think I’d get an allegory of wealth inequality in a xianxia drama.

A world where the strong, the “rich,” get to hoard immortality, the “wealth,” while everyone else who made it possible is left to suffer.

Or the duality of Lu Qian Qiao, who is basically immortal and doesn't want it, vs everyone else in the show chasing it.

Most people consider the ML and FL pairing and chemistry in this drama, one of the best ever, though. They went…
That's largely a problem with Rebirth sticking closer to the novel: Chu Qiao in the 80+ chapters of the novel; what she did in the last 80+ chapters was pretty tame compared to what she did in the 190+ chapters of PA.

This could be because they couldn't get the right to PA, only the novel.

But it still kept the fact that she was trained by Zhuge Yue, which PA set up. It didn't happen in the novel; she got her skills and intelligence from being reborn into the world.

Chu Qiao's character arc works in the novel because of the continuity.

At the same time, you see Zhuge Yue and Yan Xun’s character arcs mirror each other, but in reverse. Yan Xun begins as a radiant and warm youth who is gradually consumed by hatred, vengeance, and ambition. Zhuge Yue begins as a cold and distant man, yet through love, loss, and self-understanding, he becomes warmer, no longer an ice block.

Also, Yan Xun barely appears in the novel after Ice Lake, and only mentions a few times until he meets Chu Qiao again in the very last chapter.

all the intrigue in season 1 about her tattoo and this great ancient power she was supposed to have and where…
It wasnt brought up because those specific thing was exclusive to PA adaptation, we dont know if they couldnt have the right to those specific thing in PA. But Rebirth follow the novel more in that sense.

She never had those power in the novel.

This probably wouldn’t be too bad if you haven’t watched Princess Agents, but if you have, within minutes…
Shameless plug! Even the novel is different than PA, as PA had to adapt certain important narrative points that the novel had. For those who just want to know what happens in the novel, I gave a pretty detailed write-up of what happened and how Rebirth diverges from the novel, for those who do not want to read all the chapters.

https://mydramalist.com/766289-frozen-awakening/discussions/150608-reexamining-the-final-third-through-the-novel-vs-the-drama-spoilers-with-event-in-the-novel

The biggest difference is that Chu Qiao was reborn into the current world. Which PA and Rebirth never touch on

Also, if you do not want to read the entire 279 chapters, the last 13 chapters are a Yan Xun side story.

For the start of Rebirth, you can pick up around chapters 190–193-ish, which covers the events of the Ice Lake. However, if you do not start from the beginning, you do miss certain event which they do call back to most importantly when Zhuge Yue and Chu Qiao reunion after the ice lake.

Yes, the storytelling and the pacing are pretty good. The action sequence and humor are quite well done too;).
Funny enough, the humor and romance are pretty much what a PA/Rebirth novel is like.

I mean, it is Xiao Xiang Dong Er who is doing the screenwriting; it is definitely her style of writing
