I've seen the similar reasons from many dropping investigation partners but if you put aside that, the cases are extremely well crafted with suspense twists and turns.

Yes, everything is happening in their subconscious mind this is my second time witnessing such a phenomenon since (life on mars) kdrama.

the alleyway of the shop coincides with the first ward of the hospital so the bulbs are Interpretation of souls of the deceased and the one's between life and death. The owner of the shop is highly likely a king of death (yeomra) and noodle shop owner might be the grim reaper.
