Yes. It does seem to be unnecessarily added drama.
If the translation I read was correct, the main screenwriter for the first 14 episodes , didn't want things to go in this direction or this change in the story, so the "replaced" that person.😬

The author messed up the ending of the drama version of "Swagger", when she screenwrote for that too. Some are saying she is good at writing novels but 💩 at screenwriting.
