He's definitely not dead. Came back safe and sound and brought back XFF's jade pendant. However, the scene looked like an open ending. I didn't like that at all. Just waiting for the daughter scene now.

No he didn't. Came back in the time he promised to XFF. He was very alive as he was riding the horse and the jade pendant dangling from his armour.
