I agree with your take on it. The conflict was earned. They didn't just throw episode 10 at us for the sake of drama. Everything that occurred this episode was alluded to and set up starting from episode 1. I also love how complex each character is, even some of the more minor characters. It's obvious a lot of actual planning and story-boarding took place when creating this show. that shouldn't be notable, but unfortunately too many show writers/creators fail to even do this most basic step.
This came out as a (bad) movie first. the movie was only bad because they cut this 4+ hour series down to two hours, so it was choppy and not a proper story from what people who've seen it have said.
