Yes, the director should change what the writer has written because the visual is a different art form from the written word. What might work well when we are reading it may not work the same when actually acted out. He or she would probably have to discuss with the screenwriter and say, "We tried this scene out, and it doesn't work the way we want with live actors."

What you are pointing out is why, even in dramas like this genre, it is so important to have a good director. One who knows how to set up a scene or scenario so that it does not come off as it was an obvious setup for a desired outcome. Those scenes and scenarios you mention, if set up properly, would give you a completely different takeaway from them.
One classic is the difference between having a car or truck of doom come out of nowhere from off camera, which hits differently than having the character crossing a 6-lane street and then freezing and waiting for a vehicle many yards away to hit them.
Is it just me or the ML actor seems "detached" and "disinterested" to the drama ?
I will say this: the female lead does not have the perspective we viewers have. She cannot read his mind. The body language and vibe he has been giving off to her lately could be interpreted by her as him not being able to stand her and jerking away from her touch, averting his eyes when talking to her, giving her short, curt answers, and leaving her presence as if he can't get away from her.
We all know that is not his intention, and he is actually confused by his own feelings and coming to terms with the fact that he likes her. But it wouldn't hurt for him to just be nice to her. Nothing more, nothing less. He doesn't have to confess his love for her until he is ready, but the way he has been acting is not cool. I hope it changes soon.
