Personally, I don't disagree that the fandoms usually influence the ratings on certain series. I've seen it plenty…
Yes, fandoms do influence the ratings of nearly all series or movies. And they should. Fans are what keep any genre alive. I don't think that's a bad thing.

Everything I said about the episode was just my opinion. When I watch a show that doesn't live up to my expectations, the reason is pretty much always due to decisions made by the writers/directors/editors. Art will always be subjective, so I will never get mad at fans (die hard or casual) who enjoy a series. I'm glad that people like it, there was a time when I also liked it. I wish the writers/directors/editors made different decisions, but they didn't. No one is forcing me to continue to watch it. But I will keep watching despite my disappointment because I've come this far. And I am invested in what happens to Joke, Grandma and Arun.

On Jack & Joker: U Steal My Heart! Oct 28, 2024
There was a time when I thought this was the best Thai BL of 2024. But this isn't a BL and the year is basically over, so I'm not holding my breath for anything to be the best Thai BL of the year.

But I do appreciate the loyalty and dedication of the YinWar fandom for ensuring that a series in steady decline remains the highest rated "BL" on MDL (I can't recall ever seeing a BL rated a 9, but I could have missed one). Part of me wants to laugh since this is rated higher than Love in the Big City, Blue Canvas of Youthful Days, Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo and Unknown. But I also know the overall MDL rating system is subject to some people who think all series are equally flawless and other people who think their favs are the greatest actors of all time. And if that fav appears in a series, the series is perfect even if the writing/directing are subpar.

This week I don't have the mental energy to go over all the ridiculousness that happened in that extremely long episode. Or to ask why grandma needed surgery if she isn't sick. Or what they surgery was. Or why Rose is in so many scenes. Or why Arun and Tattoo are in so few scenes. Or what happened to Tattoo's mom. Or why Joke is a better grandson than Jack. Or most importantly, why the writers think effective social commentary is having rich people play god with poor people's lives OVER and OVER again. All of those questions have answers, but this show is doing exactly what it wants to do and clearly has no intention of giving the audience decent answers to anything that actually matters.

I get that it's called Jack and Joker. But the only joke I see is on all of us viewers who thought we were getting a BL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😒.

how is this series still getting 7.8? come on ppl, lets be realistic. The first 4 eps felt like we were counting…
Thai BLs with well known actors tend to have inflated ratings on here. If the cast were a bunch of amateurs with the same plot, I think it would be no higher than 7.3.

IMO the show is no better or worse than otherThai BLs that have aired over the last couple of years. And most of those didn't deserve a rating of 7.8 or higher.

Eek!! It looks like this is turning into another bad show with aggressive "fans" who can't stand differing opinions or constructive criticism, so they resort to telling people not to watch. That behavior really only happens when a show isn't very good. And this show was fine until episode 4. I've read enough K yaois to know that sometimes authors don't see sexual harassment the same way I do. But when you have an office setting with an obvious power imbalance, intent and execution should be aligned. I can guess that the author thought Han's behavior was sweet or positive in some way. But for Yun and many in the audience, he crossed the line multiple times.

I'll probably stick with it since the episodes are so short and there's a chance Han could start to redeem himself. But since this is airing at the same time as other series that are light years better, it feels like this company should have tried harder.

Zheng yu is his cousin? I thought she was a friend
The subtitles on Viki said cousin. But maybe that's wrong. Idk Mandarin so it could be a translation issue.

Yup! The actors are doing what they have been directed to do. And were hopefully paid well for their efforts. I didn't watch We Are and won't be watching Perfect 10liners. I've seen most of New's other BLs. So I know better than to expect good series when he's involved. The ones I've actually liked were Make it Right (a flawed classic) and My Only 12% (leads with great chemistry).

I liked the first 2 episodes a lot. I really liked ShaoPeng and his cousin. It's also nice to see Nat in a new series. I'm looking forward to the next episodes.

Ah! Hi! Pretty cool to see you on this page as well! I was browsing the comment section on if anyone felt a particular…
Hi again! This has been a great week for Korean series. So many complex emotions from well written characters. I kinda wish I could binge all of the episodes of this series as well. But that would a bit exhausting after watching Love in the Big City.

I hope 5 and 6 are as good as the previous episodes!

Idk why the writers wrote the series this way but for me it's not interesting. I saw Pineare playing basically the same character 10 years ago in Love Sick. Now that the genre as matured (in terms writing/storytelling) watching her play a similar character again when she's much older and much less integral to the story, makes me bored. I also don't know if the series is making money for the people who created it. This doesn't seem like a series the has created much interest throughout the fandom.

I appreciate that this show has a cast that includes some talented/experienced actors. I also really like Pond and Earth and have seen both do a fantastic job with other characters. I think they're both doing a fine job here. But the script is not compelling enough for their potential chemistry to shine IMO.

Having seen Earth play similar characters so many times before and do better, this character/portrayal has left me wanting more. But I'm sure he's doing his best with subpar material. I will continue to watch the show, but I don't expect it to leave a lasting impression on me.

Episode 6 was really great. As much as I wanted to slap Taro multiple times, his feelings and actions felt believable. I don't think I want him to end up with Mishima. But it is nice seeing such complex characters in a high school series. Many series can't even portray adult characters with such nuance and complexity. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

2024 is the year that Korea reminded everyone that it's quality over quantity!!! Twice in one week we've had incredible series showing us that fairytales aren't real and sometimes life gets in the way. 3 and 4 were not fun to watch, but I was glued to my seat the entire time. And now I'm stuck impatiently waiting for episode 5. I love the acting in this show!

I hate to say it but at this point the only thing keeping me interested in this series is Pond's handsomeness and the way Hill looks at Ter. Everything else is skipable for me.

It would be soooo nice if they spent less time on the females feeling sorry for themselves or being loud and more time with the other main characters. I know what the director and writer are trying to do, but as others have said the pacing is off. And the story is jumbled and something we've seen done better many times before.

Same! I binged watched all the BL shows that interested me in the last month, but there's something about this…
So I JUST finished episode 8 and I'm feeling kinda raw. All of the emotions are swirling around in my brain/heart and idk how to express them. I loved it completely. The journey through Go's life to that point was the most relatable I've seen on tv in years. I often get distracted by the technical aspects of a series, since cinematography, directing, writing and acting tend to be subpar in many BLs. But those were all so flawless that I just fell into the story and stayed locked in from start to finish.

I'm consigning everything you said yesterday and today. We need more series like this one. Life isn't filled with endless happy endings. If you're gay or not. Fluff is fun, but human stories about imperfect people making mistakes and feeling deep regret hits different. The only show that has ever made me feel like this one is my all time favorite series Queer as Folk (2000). I watched that when it originally aired and have rewatched it countless times. I never thought I'd see anything that impactful again. But Love in the Big City is that show.

I could go on for hours, but no one wants to read that. Thank so much for going on this 4 day semi binge journey with me. Having a show buddy made it that much better!

I agree with everything you said so much! That's one of the things I love most about tv/movies. They give me glimpse into lives/places/experiences that are different from my life. I'm not Korean either, but this show makes me feel like I'm living in that same big city, making mistakes while trying to figure out my messy life. BL is great, but it almost never feels real or realistic. It's so rare to find something like this series, but I hope it becomes a barometer for what gay or even LGBTQ stories can be in Asia and other parts of the world.

I'm so glad I forced myself to break this up into 4 parts. Every two episodes hit me in ways I never expected. It feels like I've been on an important and epic journey that stays with me throughout the day. 5 and 6 were wow, just wow! I hope you had a good viewing experience with them. I don't feel ready for it to end tomorrow. But I'm sooooo grateful this exists.

I just finished episode 4 and I am also loving it. A definite change of pace from all the BL fluff. I'm not a man, but I do love a happy ending. But sometimes serious portrayals of gay life feel needed and necessary. I am so glad this series aired when it did!

I also think Jack's behavior tracks with what we've seen from him so far. He is gullible, constantly sacrificing…
I agree that this episode's monopoly game and poor juxtaposition of rich and poor were bad. But in the earlier episodes I actually appreciated the social commentary. It showed the hardships of being poor in a realistic way. Thai BLs pretty much always ignore the lives of poor people. Or they have one poor character who is "rescued" by the other rich character. I'd be surprised and disappointed if that happens in this series.

why did I think it was gonna be eight 20-30 min episodes.. when I saw they are like 50 mins each I was like ok…
We're so used to short BLs from Korea that that's what we've come to expect it. Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo also has longer episodes which I really appreciate 😁
