I agree that it doesn't necessarily add anything to the plot...however, IMO it can kill the whole thing if it sucks & just could have been avoided. If the actors can't be bothered to sell the kiss I will gladly settle for hugging, sniff kisses, forehead kisses...but not the high five...not the dead fish kiss...not the statue kiss...not the hidden by the shoulder...all of these can sink a ship & that may be the major thing remembered by everyone.
Example of a "kiss" that didn't need to take place but did & it's completely branded into everyone's memory? Where Your Eyes Linger LOL

As soon as we saw Chen Yi drunk I was like please no lol. Then Ai Di starts spilling his heart out calling him an idiot & telling him he was the only one that loved him I was like ok there you go now stop & leave him be but no no...I would have definitely preferred a sober Chen Yi. But those tears from Ai Di killed me.
