Honestly, the extreme stress from his wife answer is 100% canon. 😭 Forget the politics, trying to navigate a marriage where your wife ,hides massive secrets and introduces you to imaginary ghosts is enough to rupture anyone's Qi. His internal organs simply gave up trying to keep up ,no wonder he started spitting blood, his mental hard drive literally overheated. 😂

It's really a unique Chinese drama thing! Apparently, it comes from old Chinese medical and literary traditions where extreme stress or heartbreak is believed to literally shock your internal organs. While Kdramas show characters fainting or having panic attacks, Cdramas always use coughing up blood as their signature to show someone is completely devastated.
Chinese writers love this coughing up blood trope. In my forty decades on earth I have never seen blood coughing…
I swear the production budget for these dramas is 10% wardrobe, 10% actors, and 80% fake blood packets just waiting for someone’s feelings to get hurt.
