In the genre of human/android sci fi this story is pretty generic and covers many of the same basic questions over what it means to be human and whether or not ai can really form its own opinions and feelings. In the genre of bl the android element of this story is somewhat unique and fresh, but the core conflict of "does this person really love me or are they being motivated to do so by some external force?" is a fairly common scenario in any romance genre and so it will be familiar to bl viewers.
I really enjoyed Yiping's side of the story: watching him struggle with being touch starved and wanting 9's hands on him but not wanting to coerce what he saw to be a partner who could not give consent was a really interesting angle. 9's side of the story was less riveting to me because I wasn't convinced he ever gained true autonomy and I always questioned whether he was just going along with his programing.

Has anyone seen the GMM cut version vs the iQiyi uncut version? I think I saw the uncut first three eps (hoooo boy! spicy!) but the later half of the season felt unusually bland and I wonder if I maybe saw the cut version of those episodes. Is there spice in the iQiyi version?
The first couple episodes lead me to believe this was going to be a supernatural drama about gods and reincarnation. It is instead a slice of life gender study. Idk, I am letdown because I expected A and was given B. Not that B is a bad story, but I just wasn’t expecting it and I probably wouldn’t have chosen to watch this show right now if I had known beforehand. This show is very emotional and heavy at times and I wasn’t prepared for that.
I was so-so about the og series when it first came out. But I enjoyed the movie version and have rewatched that twice: the story grows on me more and more with each watch! I like the dark codependency. I am so excited to see this new cut too!!
While the main relationship of friends to lovers plays out somewhat generically, I think the divorce firm was a really interesting and unique setting. Most of the show's lessons about love, maintaining a partnership, and when to move on come from people falling out of love or from people who are jaded. It was very thought provoking and I liked seeing our mains --especially Zeshou-- work through his concerns and anxieties by speaking to different divorcees.

For the most part, the movie compiles the episodes and does not add anything new. It pulls the present-day story together smoothly and I think the flow achieved in the editing is great. However, the movie does leave out the “game” scenes which usually aired as post-credit scenes after each episode. You can interpret these scenes in two ways: 1) as the cast just playing around and making a bit of themed bonus content, or 2) as memories of the characters presented through the game they are designing. Since Gitae is the brainchild behind the dating game, and since the other employees mention that Wan looks and acts like their main character, I think it isn’t too far a leap to say that the game is based off their own high school life. I personally understood these scenes to be memories and I liked having that backstory revealed to us little by little as we learned more about the present-day characters and their anxieties and concerns. I did miss these scenes when watching the movie because they had endeared me more to the younger versions of the characters and so I cared more about their reconciliation in the present-day.
TLDR: The series includes gaming scenes which gave the show a lot of energy and thematic charm, as well as some possible backstory. The movie leaves out these scenes and so the story plays out in a more quiet and emotional manner. It is up to each viewer which style they prefer.

my yearly pilgrimage to this page, to Heaven Official's Blessing's page, to Sha Po Lang's page, etc. I can't help that little bubble of hope that lives inside me and I get myself so hyped up to check for new information only to get comedic depressed again when nothing has changed. It is so funny how so much else can change in my life over the years but these pages stay the same and I can't help but laugh.
I really liked Mizuki and thought he was the most multifaceted and interesting character in this show. His relationship with Sakae was a bit twisted and there were a lot of moments where I wished I was watching a show solely about the angst of these two characters. That being said, for all that I liked Mizuki I don't think the lighthearted and comedic story about Sakae and Soga really benefitted from having that angsty Mizuki arc plopped in the middle episodes. The Mizuki arc could have been completely cut out and this would have been much more enjoyable purely as a comedy.
I really liked this! It was slow and quiet, a bit blue/a bit of light angst but nothing too heavy, and there were also small moments of comedy or bl sparkle that helped to balance the mood. I really liked that each kiss gets more real and intimate. The very first kiss is an absolute dead fish lips kiss, but then every kiss after that gets a little more squishy, a little more emotional, a little more intense. Culminating in sex scenes in the final ep complete with wet noises, heavy breaths, whispered words of affection, grasping hands, sweaty skin, mussed up hair, etc. As for cons, there were a few moments where I thought both our main actors dropped the ball, but those moments were few and far between.
The trailer looked very interesting and the guzhuang-style scenes look fun. I had no clue this show was coming, but it is definitely going on my watch list now!
An odd thing I noticed in both the English Youtube Youku subs and the Viki subs (maybe are copies of each other) was that Yuan would often call out “ge” aka “brother” but the subs would replace it with Qian’s name (“Qian”). In most dramas this is an acceptable subbing choice, but in an incest drama in particular the mood of the scene can be drastically changed when mentions of brotherhood are removed! IDK quite where I am going with this, but I guess I feel like the subs tone down the incest vibes of the show. It is still extremely obvious that the two see each other as brothers, but like yeah, Subtitling Choices were made. Keep that in mind depending on what language/subs you watch the show in.
