it's easily one of the best kdramas released this year. even Olympics couldn't stop this show from being successful

the issue root is the difference between korean market and international market. let me break this down. korean viewers decide what to watch either based on face value (there are actors with mass following e.g NGM and LJH) or plot line. they prefer to watch slice of life dramas that indicate difficult topics that are somewhat taboo in korea (taxi driver and daily dose of sunshine).
in addition to face value, international viewers want to watch something challenging and out of the box. production companies are struggling finding that bridge between 2 markets. last year, they tried to insert hanboks in every drama possible, since koreans are really fond of something i would like to call a historical fiction. however, i found the whole thing unnecessary and so did others. now, they're making two types of dramas - one targeted towards locals (hiring famous writers/directors /actors, so people would tune in) and others for foreigners (usually, lower budget/fantasy/romance), but still missing the x factor.

the other elephant in the room that i want to bring into light is casting. how we went from what we had in late 10's to THIS? now, one actor/actress has to carry the whole drama since they choose the other one based on following, not skills. i have that issue with majority of dramas released this year.

i think Cdrama ratings are based on popularity of the leads. That's why i don't trust mdl ratings of Cdramas.
i agree on that. also, some dramas are quite popular/ get critical aclaim in their own countries, but are treated like trash here

Chinese drama fans sometimes make excuses for Korean dramas when the drama's score is low hahaha. There's no need…
maybe not over here but on twt kdrama viewers always complain over how Chinese language sounds. you can look up how many kdramas have a rating below 8 and then look up how many cdramas have a rating below 8. number of cdramas is def higher

kdrama fans are the ones who always complain about mandarin, not the other way around 🫠

tbh, the feeling i got from watching the first two episodes was the same one move to heaven gave me (very keep it real/occupational). the main difference is that, it's focusing on finding inner peace of the deceased

they're dragging out the SRQ's turning into bad plot line. the release schedule doesn't make sense in that part. they obv know how most of their viewers feel about him, so why did they release one episode for a couple of days?
