lol as long as there is no body, he's definitely alive. also pretty sure Qiong Nu will marry him later on
They were just childhood sweethearts but the brother was fond of her to the point KangNing regarded her as his fiancee.

So that her sisters can also marry? Daughters had to be married in succession, not at random, as they were not so much their own individual people, as women of the family, and they could differ in beauty or talent, but it was considered minuscule variables to the weight the family status held.

I wonder if they will show that Du's mother in the end gave in to switching the bride after finding out that Chai…
True, let’s see how it unravels. Would be very interesting if they introduced something into Du’s resume that he was hiding, that would actually put them on even footing status-wise. Madam Du was suspiciously quick to “accept” or “offer” (hard to say which it was actually) a marriage proposal- is she really this forthright? How did she raise such a cunning son, then?

Yes, but also first daughter is more calculating than the third daughter- she would be the first choice for Madam Du when it comes to housekeeping, she is very talented, so she will be able to admire Du’s accomplishments critically for what they are- as she already did during the contest. I think she is the only one capable of securing his actual respect and admiration. Such a wife is a great asset to a politician- she is like a perfect wife for a modern diplomat.

Is there any development in the eldest daughter and her love interest?
Not outwardly- we know there is, but it was only hinted at for the first time.

Thankfully earlier, because they are clearly together in photos lurking at the first daughter- so maybe like an episode before the end.

I feel like people are overlooking the fact these dramas deal with really young characters- as the cutoff point for being a spinster/ an old bachelor was very early. When you consider the fact it’s basically a college drama, most of the characters start making sense. They are immature, impulsive, and irresponsible when it comes to relationships. They are still testing the water as to what consequences their actions bring. They try to do one thing, and then their curiosity/pettiness/hurt pride gets the best of them. They are afraid of consequences and are overly timid when they can not pinpoint what actions, in particular, would bring these consequences onto them. The mothers were the girls’ ages when they were left on their own, and the show deliberately took the father figures out of the picture. Women are taught to lean on others- so that’s how the mothers were raised- only the girls knew they could only count on themselves, so they are pretty savvy and resourceful, but it should not be mistaken for maturity. The men are not used to or prepared for women who can stand their ground- so they don't view or approach them as partners by default.

Why is asking you to make a comparison so triggering? I voiced my opinion and asked a question, how is my opinion in whatever way undermining yours? Or was my question an attack?

I forgot we had Jdramas 😥🤦‍♂️. Found this by mistake and I quite liked it. My top 5 characters: Grandma…
Grandma being revealed by the end to be the poster child for mean mothers-in-law by arranging for a better shinobi lady to be presented to her perfect shinobi son as his head of sales was the cherry on top for me

I guess she was looking for an outlet for all her pain and anger
I agree. It showed that the anger wasn't directly pointed at anybody, it was just her initial instinct to cut herself off from everybody and crawl back into her shell.

I don't know what direction they're trying to go for. A messed up family drama, or psychological crime drama??…
Yes, I rated it 9 until the current episode, I was so triggered about him letting go of a potential murderer just to protect his daughter. I mean, why does he even poke and prod if he doesn’t want her to be held accountable, he only cares about himself and his right to know about the daughter and the wife, even though it escalated beyond a family matter a long time ago and involves a lot of other people now. He actively sabotages the investigation. So egotistical.

so happy that Lee Joon Hyuk’s character here has a spin-off series! y’all watch Dong-Jae. its gonna be a ride.
Yes, as much as I love Cho Seung Woo, Lee Joon Hyuk deserves his own show after his performance in Stranger, and allowing him to further explore his character from Stranger through a spin-off is just perfect. I just wish some of the Western streaming services picked it up so I could support the show and account for ratings somehow. I hope it does well in Korea.
