Yeah if it was meant to be showing any kind of love from the crown prince I am not seeing it at all. Feels like Hyo Ying chose to give his life and fell for CP after he saved him but it's definitely seeming one sided just like Shen's love for Hyo.

It's better explained in the novel. Sheng treats his partners as disposable and has very terrible commitment issues. He gets bored of his partners easily, cheats on them and throws them away, lets his friends play with them etc. That's why he has 32 ex's and Hua interrogated them all. He wants SSY to be completely in love with him but
1. SSY hates and won't date anyone of Illegitimate birth - HY is of illegitimate birth 2 SSY will only date weak, submissive, damsel in distress omegas and they have to be virgins. (SSY has only this one type) HY being Enigma is the strongest being and basically everything SSY hates in a partner, so he would never give him a chance knowing the truth. (HY is a virgin as he has been saving himself for SSY only which is the one tick on the list)
Everyone in Desire is rather Fk'd up from some kind of childhood trauma. HY our crazy enigma is going to the extremes in everything as he is literally placing his life on the line to get SSY to fall in love him. He said earlier he can't be an omega but maybe SSY could love a beta so he would willingly remove his Enigma gland (Which would probably kill him) to try and become a beta for his sake.
At this point in the relationship SSY has cheated on him several times so HY is desperately going to extremes to make SSY fall in love to the point that when he finds out the truth he can't live without HY.
Most of his over the top plans have actually made SSY change things he normally would never even budge on or simply throw his partner away for so HY's plan is working but it is also causing SSY a lot of pain :(
But basically in HY's mind he has to go all in with his plans because SSY's commitment issues are extreme and If he can't have SSY he would rather not live, hence his 15 years of planning and stalking.
