Read the translated novel sometime ago so I may be wrong. Ju'er needed to marry someone to prevent being the concubine of her childhood friend, the SML who loves her. She does not want to 'steal' another woman's husband and she does not want to stand in the way of his chance of happiness.
Will go and check whether there is some progress in translation from chinese to english.

Now that you mention it no wonder nothing much happens in each episode. I am going to stop watching this drama until all 24 episodes are shown.

Am I the only one who is annoyed by the long recap and opening song. I need to ff 5 mins and the actual episode is only about 30mins long.

Are they actually speaking the language or is it just made up? I thought the accent and dialogue sounds ancient and legit not that I speak your language haha

Reached the end still being a Ning Yun Zhao shipper. Enjoyed the bittersweet goodbye scene of their last game of Go. Logic tells me they are too similar to be compatible- both highly intelligent, calm with regal composure . But how could Jiu Ling resist Ning Kong Zi’s good looks and broad shoulders and those intense admiring gaze :D
I actually skipped the romantic parts between Jiu Ling and Zhu Zhan finding them cringey instead. Don’t kill me Jin Han’s fans LOL. He is not ugly and looks the part of the fierce and capable general reduced to an adorable and bashful boy in front of Jiu Ling but I couldn’t buy the great love between them. In my defence , Zhao Liying normally have great chemistry with her male leads (think Zhang Han in Boss and Me) but I also didn’t like her pairing with Jin Han in Our Glamorous Times either.
I need to have another drama with Wang You Shou in the main lead to cure my withdrawal symptoms but in the meanwhile will make do by watching him again in Young Blood :D

Thanks for confirming this for me. I have only basic understanding of Chinese and can only guess the meaning watching the raw episodes. I can see her regret and sadness having to hurt him by rejecting his confession. I like to think she likes and admires him too and the chemistry while they are together is sizzling ! I am definitely team Ning Kong Zi

In drama, you can tell Zhu Zhan was offended by 3rd brother’s sarcasm on his age. 3rd brother was more hilarious in the novel. His sarky comments when he exchanged barbs with Zhu Zhan on their disparity on age and wealth had me LOL many times . Too bad the translators did not finish translating the whole novel. I enjoyed it just as much as drama.
Drama had a lot of potholes because script writer had to avoid the reincarnation part while retaining elements of the novel (FYI Reincarnation is forbidden by China government)

In the novel, Princess Jiu Ling learnt medicine and Go from a legendary doctor from young in her quest to find the cure for a father. As she tags along in his journeys over many years, she not only learnt medicine but also wisdom and independence.

Why did Jun Jiu Ling cried when she rejected Ning Yun Zhao the 2nd time in episode 27. Can anyone who had read the novel or have opinions please share. Need something to keep show alive while I wait for new episodes after 30.

Your point on He Hong Shan is spot on. Her acting is terrible, and if she had remained as the ML, I would have dropped the show. As ML, she is unlikeable, as the protagonist in the Sword and the Brocade, she was unlikeable too LOL.

Should be judging from the trailers. You can tell Jun Jiuling admires him too but she knows they can never be together so she kept a respectful distance . She has already taken Jun Chen Chen’s face and identity- she can never take her fiancée too.

This drama is giving me a serious case of 2nd lead syndrome . Wang You Shou fits the description of Ning Yun Zhao to the tee - intelligent, elegant and refined and oh so good looking. In the novel there was more interaction between 2ML and FML and their mutual respect and appreciation of each other more apparent .

Agree. This is not a romantic or palace intrigue drama. Every side character has a story and no one is perfect. Would have preferred Xu Kai as the ML as he does goofy childish so much better but show ML is believable as he is actually acting his age.

Can someone spoil the ending for me? I think the package HZ sister received is from Xiao Dong to tell him where to find her. The AWB seems to be all in Chinese. Then we cut to the restaurant that looks like the Japanese izakaya XD worked in ep 15 (?) which suggest she was in China the past 3 years waiting for HZ to be released. The broad shoulder man in the blue jacket then must be HZ and it’s a happy ending right ?

Thank you for saving me :D What's with script writers in C dramaland. They start off brilliantly and fizzled towards the end. Writer's block or pressure from producers to milk drama by filling it with uninteresting 2nd leads story - I am thinking of you. Tears in Heaven. But to be fair, it happens in kdrama too like Cheese in the Trap where towards the end I feel like cramming the piano keys down the 2nd lead's throat and screaming "why are you here? I want to watch Park Hae-jin "
