I think it's "better produced" because Untamed had a B budget at least while this show was on an almost E budget, (ranking lower than Eternal Faith, Winner is King and especially Immortality). They only had one sponsor in comparison too so with the very little budget they had, they really did try to make it work.

1. The donghua is much closer to the novel on the overall storyline. But they cut out a lot of scenes that I liked in CQL that actually exists in the novel. Still, I think it's worth a watch. not my thing but it might be yours.

SOKP is the best for plot, but Jiang Xuening did far less for Xie Wei than Nan Yan. Nan Yan really, really loved Ji Yang. So, as far as historical goes, the most reciprocal would be this drama for me.

Jing Qi Chi still ends up with Huan'Er. Qiqi and Song Cong broke up but Qiqi has an offscreen new boyfriend. Song Cong kissed Du Man but they're not in a relationship yet.

Very decent ending, which is very good for me.

I think it's more the platform. Justice In The Dark is under Youku, and this one is under Tencent. Most people are hesitant on anything Tencent because they haven't even released any of their animations or live actions adapted from a Danmei since the 2021 ban like the other platforms.

Everything he filmed in 2021 - 23 was shelved. He then picked up a few dramas these past 2 years to film. Eg It was only recently that Cao Xuanxuan could air - he filmed that way back in 2021/2022 and that was because the time travel ban for chinese dramas recently got lifted.

Spirealm, The Untamed and Justice in the Dark are comparably gay. Censored but gay. And I can differentiate the censored BL and bromance because Huang Junjie and Xia Zhiguang cannot appear in a magazine or any show together ever again, make mention of their show publicly or have any form of promotion for their dangai. Because the show they're playing is actually gay vs the "bromances" like BenSaxin which is "hahaha, we're totally not gay" but attempts to queerbait. Its very uncomfortable to watch actual gay actors not get their dues but bromance actors get everything (magazine covers, interviews).

So, I am happy we're getting actual male friendship than something 'bromance' where it is always in denial to be gay.

Ooh they just lifted the time travel ban. That's also why the last Zhai Xiaowen drama, Great Dao Xuanxuan filmed in 2021 could finally air but the restrictions definitely ruin a lot of stories, especially on the aspect of 'morally gray' characters.
