I really dislike the woman who claims to have a son with Lee Sang Joon. Everything about her gives bad vibes.…
I beg to differ! Its either she slept with LSJ’s father or his cousin. There is something almost vindictive about how the cousin is behaving. His self assuredness when confronting his son’s mother gives something sinister away, IMHO.
I think it’s because he initially withdrew all the money and changed it to US dollars, then all the transactions…
@William why do you think a lot of governments are jumping up and down and demonising cryptocurrencies? This is what conglomerates are most afraid of. You can’t track it and ordinary men and women and especially the young are making money through this system. Governments and conglomerates are all about fear and control, period! Youngsters are smarter now than my generation who just towed the line and we basically kept quiet and respected our elders. Now we know that the elders didn’t necessarily have our best interests at heart.
This story is highlighting this in a clever way. Remember that the writers and directors have to be careful of not offending the people who are actually investing in their drama? So there is always more going on, than what we get to enjoy as entertainment. And I’m sure you know this too👍🏽

@William, you are right. It is basically money laundering! Look these conglomerates avoid taxes through the complexities of the “trust” Basket/bucket system, if you want to call it that. So if you notice, the grandfather liquidated one of the partner assests in order to pay for another automobile company. That particular company was really their slush fund. Which they had suckered hard working Koreans to pay into, so that it could maintain an air of legitimacy about it and basically slide on the lines of legality. Meanwhile, the insider trading was going on. The top investors knew when to get out, but the ML’s mother didn’t. In these kinds of things, you need to have your ears to the ground in order to get wind of something ominous happening. She was relying on mainstream media for her information about her investments, which is what a baby investor does. So her and many others like her, lost their savings and investments that were primarily for the higher education of their children.
I really liked the first three episodes, so amazing! Ep 4 and 5 were also good but ep6 I couldn't finish for three…
@Yani, I feel that’s the point of showcasing how some conglomerates are in Korean culture and life. It could have been clearer and cleaner I suppose, if I were looking at it from a wordsmith’s and writer’s point of view, however from an entertainment perspective, I think it works well. The clarity and direction could easily have been managed better, however the storyline gets the point across.
For me, the point about the mind of the head of this conglomerate family and how he handles anyone in opposition to him, is what I find fascinating and indeed what the ML is perhaps more fascinated and shocked by. The grandfather is completely disappointed by his children. He is driven by profit, power and money. And of course Patriarchy. Everyone must do what he says, or else, they are out! Greed and a need to please the father has driven the children except the ML’s father.
This is the only person, who has a modicum of sanity and morality. And that’s a great example of no matter how bad a conglomerate family are, there is always one person at least, who wields the ‘moral high ground’ and can show up being compassionate to others, irrespective of how fortunate they are.
Just a thought; not sure about all of you, but personally I feel at least that the male lead isn't at a moral…
I think its obvious that what is driving the ML is a mission of revenge. For whatever reason, he doesn’t see his ‘cousin’ as the person who ordered his killing! Unless I’ve missed something 🤔? So the true character of his grand-father, a man he revered in his previous life is becoming almost shocking to him. He is getting first hand experience of how the man truly thinks. These people are never outwardly transparent. Look at how faithful the grandfather’s right hand man is? And yet, anything that is about the ‘ordinary man,’ he whispers away from the ‘rock’ who has stood by his side for years.
The revelation that these congromolate families are so devoid of morality is something that the ML can’t get his head round. He wasn’t careful with hiding his agenda. Once the future wife of his cousin came on board, he should have realised from how she behaved in his past life, that they always take care of themselves first and have no qualms about throwing each other under the bus.
That’s my take and of course my opinion of the story

Because he smartly invested his dollars outside of the country. Otherwise, the Korean government would have taken his money during the IMF crisis. Remember the financial Cyprus crash in 2013? Every person on a pension and being taxed, ended up contributing to paying for that! So salaries and pensions were raided without people’s consent. Governments can be thieves too! Especially when they are bailing out a banking system that they don’t really understand.
Oh my word, anyone who is a responsible oldest child and sibling will relate really well to this drama. I have to say, its heart warming, heart wrenching at times and of course humourous. I’m enjoying this drama thoroughly
Some of the humour is good, some of it is cringey and mostly causes second hand embarrassment. It could have been…
definitely correct on that @roddib I was talking with my best friend last night and we discussed how we both laughed at something she said and yet someone else gave her a blank stare.
People need to have a really good and robust sense of humour to watch this drama, in order to appreciate it, otherwise some of the ‘comments’ I’ve seen, appear rather unintelligent and ridiculous. The comedy is quite slapstick at times and SIG is absolutely hilarious as the Shaman/criminal profiler. I did laugh out loud at his antiques with his crew and appreciated that behind all of that, he is attempting to find his friend’s murderer. I feel that the writer and director did a very good job with the transitions of humour and the seriousness of hunting for the murderer. I’ll come back to comment more as I’m slowly but surely taking my time to enjoy this drama.
Basically its the problem with any/most adaptation. As a person who’s been a big fan of chang ge xing since…
Thanks Michelle, I so appreciate intelligent feedback?? I’ve googled Sandra Ma and I can see by her portfolio of films that she is going down the route of serious acting rather than using her looks per se. Whilst I love Dilraba and Zhao Lu si, I am really impressed with the new generation of Chinese and Korean Actors and Actresses.
It’s rare to see a scene like that in an Asian drama where a child completely exposes the hypocrisy of an elder…
You are so right, Sunny. Its how she did it though, that makes me realise why she got away with it. This character is all about transparency and her generation are very clear that this is what they stand for. I’m immensely proud of Hyang-gi’s character and people around the planet doing exactly what is showcased here. Thumbs up to the writer with these particular scenes.
Oh my word, just watching Episode 7 and Hyang-gi is the star of this episode. Her father just destroys himself in front of her and her brother. To be honest, I was gobsmacked at what he said to them, initially. The sacrifice that their mother went through causes me to address the fact that women do sacrifice a lot in relationships and I wonder whether if we as women, stopped doing that, the landscape of the planet with all its current nonsense and flaws will change.
