In the novel it was longer and different than in the drama.

Dr Jiang’s ex scenario was actually int he novel but was more brutal than in the show. Chi Cheng’s ex also popped up around the same time too. I know it seems rushed but it’s already been six months since he came back he just showed up now so our couples have been in the cat and mouse chase for half a year at this time.
