Thanks for the article :)! I can honestly say that I can relate a lot to this as I’m often accused of “ hate-watching” a show if I leave a negative or very critical review. ( The other popular one that I get told like you is “ why not just drop it?”) .
In reality it is just an opportunity to write and practice. I will rarely pick up a show unless it doesn’t appeal to me in some way. However i admit that I’m terrible for rarely dropping things unless it’s really dire. ( Although it does get a little irksome ! )
Out of curiosity would you ever consider writing separate articles on “ guilty pleasure” watching and “ hope-watchers”? It would certainly be intriguing to read :).
Remember watching this on the big screen when it first released, definitely left an impression.
That certainly must’ve been an intriguing experience :)! I came across the movie myself from my late father who was a big Miike fan and revered ‘ Audition’ as one of his fav Japanese movies :).
I understand people think the drama is bad or something, but sometimes I read the review and I wonder if the person…
@ Ummeninoassistindodorama Hi there I don’t really mind if your reference maybe comes to my comment. I must admit I was a bit surprised to come across some negativity here to my review and am shocked that someone thinks this way 😞. I guess that I should probably explain that I was initially writing when I was going and did skim through to see the ending, and went back through to watch properly but didn’t realise that I clicked already watched! I’m on the final episode now so apologies for anything misleading. Apologies for the comments down below - it seems to be a little heated and I hope that I’ve cleared up any misunderstandings. I don’t mind if we see don’t see eye to eye but let’s just be respectful and I hope that everyone has a lovely Christmas 😁.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. If you look through my previous comments and review-style, you’ll appreciate that I often try to take an objective-critical tone to my reviews rather than basing my judgements on subjectivity. A 7.0/10 is a good review for me based upon various factors including acting, writing quality, pacing and tone. Whilst I appreciate that this may seem harsh, I like to think this is a fair review and judgement on my part.
Such an exhaustive review for something that's not worthing it! I appreciate the effort, are you into writing? Thanks,…
Thank you for reading .Constructive-criticism is something I hold dear into all my reviews in order to perceive an objective break down for readers. In all honesty I appreciate to some that my critiques may seem pointless. However regardless of how “ good” or “ bad” shows are perceived, I like to try to give a lowdown on where shows succeeded and possibly fell victim to dilemmas also. I’m a literary student so I must admit that I do like to waffle ! : D
I definitely agree with you. Its worth the watch as it was interesting and the young stars had amazing chemistry…
Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts . I definitely agree with your point about episode duration - the series could’ve easily been fleshed out more with longer episodes :).
I’ve definitely not heard of this one before. ( I’ll have to check it out for myself!)
Thanks for reading! If you’re interested in older Korean movies similar to this one then I would also recommend checking out ‘ Sympathy For Mr Vengeance ’ (2002) by Park Chan Wook. It is darker and more graphic than ‘ A Cut Runs Deep’ but Wook covers the basis for some sardonic and satirical social critiques as well as some unexpected twists also.
