This drama is loyal to its genre with no subplots meant to dilute the romance. Usually these subplots increase the viewer's interest: a bit of action, a bit of revenge, a bit of suspense etc but if the script is not well written, they can make more bad than good.
Hidden Love follows exactly the novel and the manhua. It is well written, well directed and well acted. It has plenty of cute details, the OSTs, the leads chemistry, all made it a lil gem for its genre. With 43mil viewers/ep (no tv channel only online streaming), it tops all chinese charts, also Netflix (ranked 2 ,after Who Rules the World, from all chinese dramas ever streamed on the platform), the most popular Youku modern drama of all times.
I dont like horrors, but I admit there were made series of this genre which are masterpieces, well deserved rated with high ratings. I drop them, too:) In the end it's about every viewer taste and it's normal to be that way

It definitely wasnt your cup of tea (or, at least, you dont like the FL for some reasons). Just move to something which can bring you more joy.
I saw you rated it with 2.5, which I found it too low and YAMG with 9.5 which I found it too high and even "de gustibus non disputandum est", I kinda understand why you didnt like it
This drama is the first blockbuster of the summer, always in top 5 in all charts in mainland China and the most popular 2023 drama overseas (It is ranked second by Netflix points, after Who Rules the World, it is still trending on MDL). It also got its first awards. My point is the majority loves this drama, which is really wonderful

I really didnt find it weird, I didnt need this period of their relation to be more detailed than it was (the period of their relation when he left the city to start his business/she finished uni, when they were apart, is even less detailed). Unfortunately, drama has only 25 ep. :) It is well done, well written, acted, directed. If you found things you didnt like, means it isnt your cup of tea (story, actors-whatever) and you should move on, dunno, to something which can bring you more joy
