I would disagree. The reason you've outlined for Mae's dad being preferable to AI's dad is actually what makes him so diabolical imo. AI's dad is a no good piece of shit but he's so obvious about that we can't expect any better. Thus AI doesn't waste her time being disillusioned that her father cares for her in the slightest.
