I think many people dropped it due to the 2nd ml (he has many scenes in the 2nd half and some people feel like the ml became a side character due to this), and some people don't like the fl because she isn't like the typical fl, she is very closed off and rude to the ml since she doesn't trust him.
If you just focus on the fl and ml, the romance is perfect. They have a lot of misunderstandings in the past so in their 2nd life they don't trust each other fully. But they still like each other and as the drama progresses they communicate more and get closer. The ml does open up to the fl before the fl does (which is why some people don't like fl) but the fl in her own way cares for the ml. She usually doesn't communicate properly but shows her love through her actions. She protects the ml, stands up for him, and cares for him by cooking etc. The ending is happy.

I haven't read the novel but based off the bts it seems like a growth story. They have scenes from their childhood, middle school, high school, uni and work life. I think most of the scenes could be from high school bur it wouldn't focus fully on student life since it is more about family, friendship and the relationship between ml and fl.

Yeah I heard that too, though some of them are ridiculous. I heard that dramas are now half the length, I don't see the point of removing half the plot.
