Ok lemme just say that I can count on one hand how many truly hot romantic scenes we get in c-drama. Only the younger lesser known actors seem to go all in. All the veterans and established actors are too cool to real kiss because they can get away with the air kiss. The only exceptions I can name are Mark Chao, Chen Kun and Chang Chen but that is also maybe because they were movie actors, the bar is higher/ censorship is lower for the big screen.

I actually found this year quite strong in terms of wuxia but of course nothing in the league of NIF - if you haven't watched Ancient Detective, I highly recommend it. I also enjoyed Miss Truth, Under the Power and Handsome Siblings.
Joy of Life I couldn't get past episode 5 regardless of all the hype but I plan to give it another shot closer to the time season 2 comes out.

I would caveat he is alive for the time being (5 years later). Who knows for how long more.

Once a weak emperor always a weak emperor. So getting rid of Weining Hou really accomplishes nothing then because the sorry sack of flesh is still afraid of his ministers. That is even more depressing than I initially thought.

I don't think the issues with the ending renders the drama not worth watching - it is still an excellent drama. To be honest, the only kind of ending that really puts off viewers as far as I can tell is a sad ending. I have been known to avoid them myself when I am not in a good mood. I think many of the comments reflected disappointment that it didn't end on a high note but forget to caveat that the drama is still a good one.

He faked an emperor with the full knowledge and cooperation of said emperor and solely to save said emperor's sorry ass. How is that right to then turn around and condemn him for it? It is a grevious injustice that that sorry sack of flesh still occupies the throne at the end of the drama.

Indeed - I am at 9.0 as well but I am tempted to downgrade to 8.5 but still thinking about it. I will re-watch the final again and see how I feel.

Oh I think you survived the dullest parts so you may as well finish. The ending was a bit weak but there are still a bunch of really good parts it is worth finishing.

He definitely packed on some pounds but a lot of it rolls off about halfway through the show.
