over the lost of his buddy. I think Zhang Yao did great with how he conveyed Mo'er shock and grief. I was a bit non-plussed that Ban'er however just went ahead and autopsied him as if he were just another corpse and not also a friend of hers. It seems a bit suspicious though that he was defaced like that. I wonder if its building up for a twist. This drama underneath all the humor is quite dark. The consistent theme so far in the cases feature just how oppressed and voiceless the little people in this drama are. Seems like the Dalisi is a lot more corrupt than the Kaifeng Court.
Its quite a sad statement to say that finally into last two week of the 2024, we get a nicely wrapped up ending that doesn't pull a Titanic on us. I am going to skip gushing over the main CP bc I think many have already. The game of thrones arc did take quite a few liberties with the historically implausible, if not impossible but it was well executed. I particularly enjoyed how Dou Zhao shocked everyone by shooting Prince Qing. I have mixed feelings about the Ji Yong twist. I think I have a slight preference he remained a bad guy. Even though they hinted he could be a double agent at least twice on my count, there was never any indication he met the emperor much less had the opportunity to scheme so deeply with him. And he would have made a much more interesting final villain than the silly Song Han and the cliche Wu Tzetian wannabe empress. The ending episode was a bit on the preachy side but I really love that they remembered to include the cute little Jiang Shu, the boy that was lived and next Duke Ding.
He ultimately made the best decision for ML and made this a HE.
I have one more to go. Palace plot is ridiculous. Empress only gets to take over when the emperor is ailing if she is the crown prince's mother and he is a child. When the CP is a grown man, he is in charge. In addition to that, Prince Qing would be required to leave for his fief immediately exactly to forestall what happened. It is super lazy but its ok, I am happy to go with it.
I am in actor heaven - Zhang Songwen, Zhou Yiwei, Li Naiwen and Hai Yitian - OMG what a lineup in terms of just…
Hmmm... ok... I also like whodunit better than procedural. I just wanted to watch Fu Dalong again but it seems he will be in something else that's coming soon.
The last arc morphed into The Very Boring Story of Miao An but at least we are finally getting to see the mastermind…
and I am not at all surprised to see there is nothing benevolent or monk-like about Ji Yong. His darkening was well foreshadowed and there were hints that he was not quite a good guy all along the way. And we also know who the other co-conspirators are now that it is clear the scheming serving lady works for Empress Wan, Uncle Dou 5 we know about already, Minister Mu and eunuch Wang Ge. I would have preferred they spent more time on this clique that has the audacity to support a prince that has long since been banished to his fief try to march on the capital instead of Song Han and Miao An.
Ep 12/13 - those fight scenes were really good. Now we finally get a female assassin that fights like a real assassin and not those laughable ones that pirouette and pose like they are dancing ballet or worse, are as stiff as a plank that can't seem to fight at all!!!
