All countries suffer from revisionist history in some form - even South Korea, I'm sure. There's a fine line between integrity and nationalism that can get toxic.
I have yet to find a jdrama to match the way this was done. Love the filter that they used to make things feel…
Some film options: River’s Edge, Drowning Love, Backwater, Until I Meet September's Love, Norwegian Wood. Not Quite Dead Yet, Pink and Gray, Marmalade Boy, Butterfly Sleep, Ano ko no Toriko. Some of these are quite dark but all well-done, imo. Not sure if this is what you're looking for - let me know.

Similar to this would be Majo no Jouken. (Also Love in Fortune but Majo no Jouken is better.) For questionable characters and choices but still often extremely well-done and thought-provoking: Double Fantasy, Glass no Ie, Dying Eye, Boku wa Mari no Naka. To a lesser extent Perfect Crime. I tell everyone to watch Million Yen Women, and Kenja no Ai has one of the most interesting OSTs I've ever heard (plus it's so crazy in parts you just have to see it.) Love Shuffle is just fun and also quite emotional in parts, which I wasn't expecting.
Well, I don't have much to say, it was an okay drama for me. I wanted a better ending, but it was okay. However,…
Agreed - while I've always sprinkled Japanese media into my other drama watching, for the past two months I've only watched Japanese films and doramas. They are addicting on so many levels and they tackle themes in a way that K-dramas haven't started doing yet. (Taiwanese dramas are also a favorite for this.)
He shouldn't be labeled an idol actor anymore. He's a performer, and it seems that he can do anything he puts his mind to. He is one of the best actors in Japan...full stop.
So this was a great article in a few ways: it gave me some more recommendations to add to my ever-growing watch list, and it just solidified my decision to never look at ratings again because they're meaningless, apparently. (This is especially true for Japanese dramas and anything tagged mature for any reason.) LOL. Thanks again for the article.
I definitely see 7 as a low rating, and I think it's "weird" that so many people here do not. So this is explaining…
You must have me confused with someone else on here, because I never said I wouldn't watch a drama rated below an 8 (and I just went and checked every comment I made on this thread.) What I actually said was that because I watch a lot of Japanese dramas, and they're rated so poorly on here, I almost never look at the ratings before watching them. I don't trust the rating system on here and now even less so. I'm not dependent at all on what others think about a drama - I'm a full-grown adult now and can make up my own mind.
When I rate a movie or a drama with 7, it's something that I liked.I don't think that it's a bad system, it's…
In my school system a 7 was a C and not something that we were supposed to strive for...not that C's were "bad" grades, per se, but they were just passing grades and not excellent.
YAY PANDA!!! What a great drama! The plot makes it seem like it's going to be just fluff and filler nonsense but it was actually deeply profound and beautiful in places, and wickedly funny. I almost never watch old dramas but I'm so glad I made an exception with this one.
Yes it is outdated. Using the terminology ("actor vs. actress") that folks in the industry (all over the world) are using now is not "woke" at all, it's just good practice.

I "want too much?" What does that even mean? Believe me, I find plenty to watch...too much, in fact. I'm able to watch lots of things because I almost always ignore the ratings, and these comments are proving me right, Your comment in particular is taking too many liberties (thinking that you know me when you don't and assuming things you shouldn't) and is, frankly, patronizing.
That's weird to consider something around 7 as a low rating... I was expecting something like 5 or even less.…

Considering how low Japanese dramas are rated on this site, I almost never look at the rating before watching them. (But maybe it's because people here seem to think that a 7 is a good rating, which is really like a C+. ) I actually wouldn't mind if MDL got rid of the rating system altogether and just let people leave reviews and comments.
