This. I'm still trying to figure out if we're ever going to get individual character development for each of them, or they will only end up as a comedic bundle. Their character is not very distinct from each other so there's really no point in creating 4 different generals to fit for 1-2 role, imo. Could've condensed them into 2 person, really.

I'm not chinese but this bothers me too lol. Many asian languages emphasize the significance of addressing the other person the right way because it could imply different level of respect, formality, etc.

If we're going with novel characterization, iirc the grandma is actually very nice, she'll be xiao qiao best support while trying to manage her marriage life in wei family.

So far i'm enjoying this because despite the initial premise, this is actually very light and easy to digest. They condensed the (many, so many) wars from the original story and instead focusing on the intentions and mental wars behind it. I also like the fact that, amidst the trend of dramas with revenge-driven plots, this story is focusing on forgiving, understanding each other, and trying to find middle ground to fight common enemies.
My only complaints so far is that i was kinda hoping more individual character building from the four wei generals squad. So far their actions are a bit inconsistent, especially towards xiao qiao and the qiaos in general. But yeah, we're still in the early stage so there are plenty of room to develop it. That, and I just kinda missed liu yuning's six path squad from AJTL...

did i read that right? he jianqi and ma qiuyuan in a non-vertical drama? nice. probably going to wait until it finishes airing though.

Just finished the 2nd eps. So far this looks solid, and the tweaks they made to alter it from the novel actually makes it works as a story of it's own. I sure hope this doesn't mean they would deviate too much from the novel ending cause, we're all so done with stupid writers who thinks the only way to make a story worth remembering is to end it in tragedy 🙄

I'm 18 eps in and if there's anything i've learned from this drama is that, if you met someone that's overly nice, they probably has evil intentions 😅😅.
That aside, i have question though. Sorry if this has been asked before, but when banxia was kidnapped in the underground city, how did xuanye make the connection between the teapot(?) hanging in the cupboard and the bookstore? Did i miss a cultural reference or something?

the part where the FL basically speed-run her investigation about the 'supposedly' pei's adopted son was just so freaking funny from a storytelling perspective. i got a major flashback from that one episode in ajty where they basically just narrate a whole political revolution cause they just don't want to be bothered XD

i've watched until mid-part of ep 14 so far but i just have to say

i was just wondering about what exactly was hanyan's dad motive to marry her mother, cause, it couldn't be that he needed the family influence (they're all dead already). but if he married her cause he really like her then why the heck did he bother to keep another concubine in the house.
but, well, going by patriarchal logic in that era, it's probably valid to claim to like one person while keeping another on the side.

so han yan's dad basically started all these schemes to ruin her mother's family just so he could marry her? so he's so in love with her? but at that point he already has a concubine???

also, is the first daughter (the one who's already dead) yushan's sister? like, from the same mother? or is there another concubine in this house that i don't know yet?

Honestly same lol. Most asian parents really like to jump into conclusion, not to mention the bragging and gossiping lol. I mean of course there are exceptions, but personally i'd rather keep my relationship issue to myself unless things has gotten very serious and actually needing their opinion.

face swapping? do they change LMD with other actor? because he's still listed on the cast list

i don't read both novel but i watched hidden love. from what little i heard, they raised the FL's age to lessen the age gap between the main couple. first frost, the drama, follows the original age from the novel so sang zhi was essentially still a kid for most of the time in this entire series. feel free to correct me if i'm wrong though.

i think this director really like to build the atmosphere and vibe to tell the story, instead of just focusing on characters interactions, because that's what i noticed on smile code as well. i didn't expect this to be as therapeutic as this (the lighting, scenery, indoor sets, soft coloring), not to mention the glorious eye candy from the casts. even though substantially i don't think it's delivering anything revolutionary but i think it's a light and easy to watch drama to enjoy with a cup of coffee after a hard day at work.
