HIStory 6: Has Got To Be Better Than This

This 5th series of HIStory somehow was worse than the 4th...which is saying something. HIStory 4 had a weird brother-romance plotline (which continues in this series btw lol) but its main couple was still fine mostly. This series every couple was a hot mess. Let's start off with the fact that there's time travel in this, which non-realistic plots have been done in HIStory before so that's not the problem. It's that it makes for a really weird main romance. Why? Because Johnny (our time-traveler) has met with his love interest Hai Yi (strange upper class whiny boi) when Hai Yi was a small child and Johnny was already an adult. Because it was in the past! Whyyyyy did they choose to make that a plot choice? They really didn't need to!

Our second couple Vincent and Wynn were a big age gap but they seemed alright at first. Then it started to get drawn out and so lack of communication and so much fighting that I was like...dude what's the point of them? We had an age gap couple in HIStory 3: MODC which is my favorite series of the franchise! We didn't need it again but without nuance and so much confusion.

Lastly, other than the terrible plot throughout. The ending was bad too. We had this "will he or won't he?" with Johnny going back to his original time period since episode 1. What was potentially going to get him to go back was his grandmother, whose dead in the current day timeline (because duh she'd be like a fossil by then). However, the series does nothing inventive to solve this situation. There's no going back, there's just him coming to terms with it basically? I get he's found love now but honestly I thought he'd take Hai Yi back with him or visit the past at least one more time. Like tf was that cop out? Last thing, like I mentioned our problematic brother couple from like series is back in this. Why? I don't know, especially with the backlash from it! They get engaged and its just plot padding.

This Is The End....Of My Sanity

This was really weird. Like really really weird. I didn't care so much for the plot overall, minus the rekindling of our couples relationship. I think Ritsu was wrong for not taking Masumi's feelings seriously and I think Masumi was wrong for assuming their relationship was exclusive without talking about it at all. So seeing them discuss it finally years later and come back together was nice.

The spicy scenes are definitely very spicy, but also some were awkward. It's hard to explain without graphic detail or seeing the show lol. Either way, I would say watch this but only if you're down for some mind-boggling plot devices and frustrations leading to sexy times.

A Paradox Of Feelings Attached To This

So I'm a big fan of the manga this BL series is based off of. Do I think they followed the manga closely? Yes and no. There's definitely a lot more animosity between our two leads in the manga than in this, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Also this storytelling is much faster than in the manga. It takes the entire first volume for them to even admit feelings and get together, let alone be intimate. So I enjoyed seeing more from them as a couple in this.

Our leads are pretty solid and had good chemistry. I enjoyed the multiple storylines going on with different cases. However, this desperately needs a season 2 I just don't know if that's going to happen. They ended it in a way where it could go either way. In the manga, the second volume goes into meetings each others families which didn't happen in this show. I want to see that stuff! Not just getting together, but the reality of being together.

The Eclipse Of A Fantastic Show

This show was very interesting. Basically the school is super oppressive and now kids are getting hurt from this supposed curse. There's also hierarchies between the students, homophobia and love stories thrown into the mix. The story started off really strong. When its revealed, I honestly didn't expect Akk to be the one doing all the curse things. Good twist and the explanation makes sense and it's sad. Poor kid has the entire crap schools reputation on his shoulders, I thought the eclipse was going to be more than just a legend associated thing and a social media account. That was kinda dissapointing but again the twist of Khua running the account was cool. However, the twist I hated was that the one teacher was ENGAGED TO THE UNCLE. What? Why? That's so dumb. Thai BL's multiple times have tried to throw in the, this person seems like a bad guy but actually had some random tragic gay love story too many times for it to be even remotely shocking anymore. It's just kinda lazy writing tbh. Also the protests started getting really repetitive in this and I wanted it to end.

Our actors are good in this. I never ever thought I'd see Khaotung as this bad boy pursuer in a show lol. I've just seen him as side characters or in awful Tonhonchonlatee. So this was a breath of fresh air for him I'm sure! First is great in this, but I knew that from tiktok's obsession with him. Khan being "Bruce Wayne" lmao, sure why not. Overall I wanted much more from this series, but its aight.

A Cute Piece of Pie, But A Hot Mess Of A Show

This show I had zero expectations for. I gotta admit I am not a huge fan of Zee. I saw him in "Why R U" and did not like his character or acting at all. I think he pushes it too far with these roles. This one however was a lot more suitable for him. NuNew also did a great job in his role, though his character frustrated me often in this. Like boo just be yourself! Though their relationship was rocky, it was also entertaining and hot! So I let it slide because I was engaged in it. Nat and Max I saw in "Y-Destiny" and liked them there. So I was excited to see them again, though it wasn't everything I could've hoped for. Their relationship was veryyyy slow paced, but cute once it got going. Our third couple I could've cared less about and skipped through their scenes after awhile. I wish series didn't push for the third couple so much. It's too much on the plot and unnecessary. The only time that 3 couples worked seamlessly was in UWMA.

The humor in this is spot on. I really had a few good laughs! The plot though kinda disheveled was fun and I hope to see these two main characters in another series. I guess there's a sequel happening so that's cool! I just don't want anymore family drama please. That was frustratingggg. The plot wasn't executed the best but overall watching this was a good time.

You're My Fire, The One Desire, Believe When I Say, That This Show Isn't All Bad

Ya'll on here better get the reference of my title for this review XD

This show was okay. Not great, but not terrible. The lighting choices in this show were actually really cool. Scenes are lit up with fluorescent pink lighting in some shots and its well done. Not overly quirky feeling or dumb. It's also just shot really nicely compared to other BL's that are super stiff shots over and over again. I didn't mind the main couple Tupfah and Torn. They were cute albeit kinda cliche. We saw the best friends to lover trope done perfectly in ITSAY, we don't really need it again.

I could tell things were going south for them when Torn started going behind Fah's back. That is a big relationship no no and honestly Fah could've been more upset with him. Dude was an overworked angel for a lot of this show. Though he did start to neglect Torn and others around him. I liked the showing of the "pressure to perform" in a sport. It's pretty realistic and you just can't let something like that change who you are as a person. Like it was starting to do with Torn, along with his being frustrated with the relationship situation. Speaking of sports, I liked the basketball scenes in this. Though I could see if you don't like or care about the sport those scenes were probably too long for you. Fair enough. Though I have to ask one thing. Why is there crowd cheers during the important game of the show with zero people in the stands? That was hella weird XD

Moving along. The side couples I didn't really care for. Aii and Saen were okay. First their relationship was Saen having unrequited love that turned into a hook up. Then once they actually got together, Aii makes it long distance thing? Just wasn't very necessary, however... this wasn't as bad as the third couple Dome and Vee. They were the worst in my opinion! With the girl drama, the lack of scenes and engaging dialogue. To the awkward thigh/leg rubbing that was like a poorly made version of ITSAY's scene lol. Like why did we need that? We didn't need a third couple but often they are added in to fill in some gaps. Though arguably, they could use that gap time to literally flesh out the other couples more! The only series I can think of off the top of my head that pulled of 3 couples was UMWA. But one couple was dead and technically a part of the main couple soooo... though in LBC season 1 I did like 3 couples too. Mostly though it doesn't work.

Watch this series though. You might have to scrub through a couples scenes but power through it you'll probably enjoy some aspects of it!

7 Project, 4 Watchable

An impromptu review of each episode and how I think you should only watch certain eps of this series.

1: (Would you be my love?)Glad to be seeing Earth again in a series! He's so good. Cute story, but of course I'll want more out of them. Which we won't get lol (update we actually will). Though this is much much better than "Close Friend" for sure! More in line with "Y Destiny". Though it won't be as strong as "Y Destiny" I'm sure (correct). WATCH

2: (Rhythms Heart) This was cute. Intertwining an lgbtq story with a hetero one was interesting. Glad to see Yacht in a leading role. WATCH

3: (Remember) About time we got a GL storyline! They are much harder to find and it saddens me. We love a hair change, so pretty. Though why don't we get a happy ending for the GL? I mean it's open to more happiness, but there is such a bias between BL and GL. I'm fine with a "realistic" storyline but it needs to be done more in BL too then. WATCH (but beware its not a happy ending)

4 (once upon a time): This one I'm excited about. We haven't seen Boun and Prem since UWMA and their side series got delayed! These 2 are adorable. I hate that Boun's hair is dark now (I love him blonde) but those glasses are a must! He looks so cute! Oh damn we're starting off with a kiss!? okay then. This story is so sad but oh so real to those in the closet. I appreciate the acting is really solid, but did we need 2 sad endings back-to-back? No. WATCH (but again beware for not happy ending)

5: (Breakup Zone) Eww we hate cocky Can lol even if he's not playing Can. Maybe it's not about you Ryu! Tf this character is so whiny, he always plays whiny characters. Can he (Plan) improve his kissing too please!? I've only seen him do decent kissing scenes in LBC season 1 and it's gotten worse over time for some reason. DON'T WATCH

6: (VS Love): so overly dramatic lol. DON'T WATCH

7: (My puppy love) I forgot about this show, but I do love Perth! He didn't save this episode though sadly. I'm also detached from this series completely lol. DON'T WATCH (but Perth deserves all the love he can get!)

Unstuck On Me

Immediately I couldn't help but notice how reminiscent of "Gameboys" the series this one was. But at least it's not a complete copy paste situation. Though it didn't bring anything else new to the table either. Other than I guess getting over an ex relationship? There's been multiple filipino BL's that have done quarantine stuff better. So this was meh. I was never really rooting for this couple because they weren't very fleshed out. Or at points even likable, so I was just kind of watching to finish it. There isn't much else to say about it, but I would highly suggest those who haven't seen other BL's from the Philippines my personal favorite are "Gameboys", its companion film and "Like in the Movies". Those are incredible and bring a lot to the table. If you really want another quarantine BL and have seen "Gameboys" then watch "Quaranthings", its stronger than this was.

Left With More Cravings, Where's The Cake!?

I can't really give a comprehensive review of this series. Since its so short and all over the place. I didn't hate it, but its pretty forgettable. The rest of this will be various random thoughts I had while watching. Enjoy!:----->

Okay first of all. You can't go to the hospital for a phobia lol more likely go to counseling. Dude is scared of the dark, what an odd trait thrown in there btw.

This is going hella fast. But the episodes are short, so was kinda expecting that. Like our first kiss is in ep 3 and it was out of NOWHERE lol. Oh never mind its a fake out which is dumb. Girl keep them out of your nasty thoughts!

The twinkle noise I swear XD

Did some research. Cheng is out and proud in real life so good for him doing this series! Raising more awareness and discussing it openly. We stan! <3

I thought they were playing us again about another kiss. But it was actually in Kyan's mind this time so fair enough. Finally some confirmation!

If you ever have second thoughts about marriage DON'T DO IT. It's so unfair to your significant other. I get it though, being concerned about marriage because of seeing your parents fall apart. That's so trauma that could also use THERAPY! I know they're going to work out though because of the intro showing the wedding! -_-

Is that the same bridge in Taiwan from "We Best Love"? Lol with the infamous confession scene? This show uses it during the day though and it's not as special.

Whoa that kiss at the end was actually really nice. Was not expecting that at all! O_o That whole last episode was actually pretty good. Wish we would've gotten more development and couple time with them! Danggit that could've been so much better!

This series felt like a fever dream. With me not knowing wtf was going on half the time lol. They shoved so much into this that I kept getting whiplash from character/plot changes. The end. :P

They Should've 'Given' Us More Music

So let me start off by saying I have not seen the anime version of this story. So I'm going into this completely unbiased, I will however be watching the anime version now. I'm sure at some point I'll add that POV to this review, but for now let's get into this. I love musical centered stuff. So when I heard about this, I had to see it. The first set with Mafuyu watching the band was great. It actually gave me chills and I was hoping for more of that in here! But sadly there wasn't. First down side to this series is that I wish there would've been wayyyy more music thrown in. Though the scene I mentioned before and the last scene took my breath away, it was too limited.

I also would've liked the series to be a lot brighter. In colour, composition, etc. I get our main character Uenoyama is going through it and searching for purpose. But add colour at least during the music man! Speaking of Uenoyama, dude is very intense. I wanted to see more of his character background, but we didn't really get enough of him. Sure its from his POV, but I wasn't super attached to him. Mafuyu on the other hand was great. Dude has some longs first of all, and his storyline was very interesting. I called ahead of time that Yuki was his former lover, but I didn't call that he had taken his own life! That's why Mafuyu carries that guitar around and is so attached to it. It's literally his last attachment to Yuki! So allowing Uenoyama to change its string twice, is actually really intimate if you think about it.

So the story progresses and we get a sweet connection between Uenoyama and Mafuyu. Though Japan needs to fix these lame kisses lol. The lighting of the scene was nice and you get the point. Also Mafuyu saying he was falling in love again at the end was lovely. I wanted more from this series, but it just makes me want to watch the anime that much more! So I would say watch this first if you can and then watch the anime. That way there isn't reconceived expectations!

A Cute Watch

Do I care about the step brothers plot? Nope! But the main leads are very likable. These were my first thoughts watching this series. I know a lot of people really love this HIStory story and I kinda get it. But I also still think this was wayyyyy too short, which is usually the case for mini series. HIStory 3 MODC and Trapped solved this problem with devoting an entire season to each story. So it flows smooth and you get plenty of time for character development and chemistry. This series did well enough with its allotted time, but I couldn't get past wanting much more from it.

Honestly I didn't really care about the volleyball stuff, I watch enough Haikyuu as it is lol. Which I appreciate them mentioning that in this series. And Slam Dunk lol. This took up a good amount of time in the show, so I was kinda fast forwarding a little through those scenes. Though they were done well. I liked the plot of Qiu Zi Xuan's injury and Xia Yu Hao taking care of him. That was sweet. Their chemistry was pretty solid, but it would've been amazing with more time. The idea of the sister liking him and having to come to terms with her brother getting Xia Yu Hao instead was also interesting! I wanted more time with that too.

What we did get between them was worthwhile to watch, so I would say give this series a try! It wasn't quite enough payoff for me but if you start off with this one and work up to MODC and Trapped you'll probably have a more solid experience than I did.

Another Engineering BL...But I'll Let It Slide

Another engineering show lol. But this one is actually probably one of the best you'll get in that genre. Way better than many of the engineering BL's like "Nitiman" recently which was trash or even "Sotus" season 1 which was boring to me. What a weird premise though with the roses. It worked out though! Bohn and Duean were really cute at the beginning, this changes some later on but they were pretty solid in the first half of the series.

As first I was actually still confused as to if Bohn actually liked Duean from the beginning, or if it was just him messing around initially. ? However, the vibe from all the sweet stares and fawning over made me change my mind. Yep totally checking him out and upfront about wanting to pursue him! We love being honest and open. The problems with them stemmed from their lack of communication and jealousy. That s*** started to get annoying by the end and I hope season 2 doesn't continue with that nonsense..

Mek and Boss were strange. Mek's character is so freaking sweet. Though the dubbing of Mek's character was a dumb decision. It's so distracting and they could've just let his character speak Mandarin! Who cares just have him be an exchange student or something. Boss was kind of an airhead throughout this, but they were alright together.

Immediately, I was the most interested in seeing where King and Ram were going story-wise. I like those 2 actors a lot. They did serve with the sweetness and I want more from them in season 2! Ram deserves all the rights, and to talk more hopefully. King needs to embrace his feelings more for sure. Also stop hitting your head sir, you'll get brain damage lol. Btw their first kiss in the tent was tops.

One thing. Ugh get past the whole "I dont like boys only him" thing that's a load of crap. Sure a single person can bring out sexual curiosity but a single person cannot change your sexuality. That was in there all along dude. That trope needs to go FAST! We also need to use our WORDS when something happens. Bohn did not kiss another dude, he was forced upon and innocent! Sure he's got some anger issues he needs to work out but dude isn't a cheater. That was hella frustrating. Please stop getting delayed season 2 so we can get some things resolved! Also notice how I didn't mention Frong or Dr.Thara...well there's a reason for that. I couldn't care less about them lol sorry.

This Series Ran, But Jogged By The End

So imma start by saying this series was overall so lovely and enjoyable! It had a lot in it that was so important and new to be seen in a K-Drama, and a lot to satisfy average K-Drama viewers who are looking for some more tropey stuff. I think it kinda faltered by the end but I would say definitely watch it because we need more of this within K-Dramas!

Now onto a more detailed review. The running part/theme of this made me think of "Mr Heart" lol. I immediately loved our lead girl Mi Joo. She's fierce, outspoken, gamer girl who wants to be a translator for films/interpreter for clients . My queen, also super pretty. Crushing for sure! She had a "Psycho" poster on her bathroom door. Twas love. She's also a badass shot and packs a mean punch. Basically I'm so happy that a main female lead in a K-Drama was packed with personality and wasn't dependent on a relationship at all! She was established and interesting, while also just being in a relationship by the end.

Next is Seon Gyeom, our lead male. He was at first kinda boring for me, but that's kinda the point. He's so closed off that you can't see any of his personality until a little later on. But once you do he's great, very layered and I loved seeing his development. I started to see glimmers when he punched that d-bag for beating up the kid Woo Sik. That was such a good plotline and needed to be seen! Seeing Woo Sik speak his truth over time and being backed up by Seon Gyeom, ugh my heart! Sweet baby boy. So together, our leads are quite strong. Very natural feeling and I was not expecting a first kiss in episode 2! We didn't have to wait super long guys for once lol! And like I mentioned before, these 2 don't rely on each other to be good characters. Which is so important! Also that bed kiss was LEGIT, one of the best in a K-Drama I've seen.

Moving on to my favorite character by the end, Yeong Hwa. He was incredible. A vulenerable painter with a lot of heart and a smile that could light up any room. This actor, whom I've never seen is great. He also has very pretty eyes and great fashion. I also have to mention real quick...the contact lens moment. Stop playing with my emotions show! This is not a gay romance, though we lowkey kinda hoped it would be lol but its okay that its not because I do like our lead couple. What a tease though, tf. So I have to say too, I still think after finishing this that Yeong Hwa deserved better than Dan Ah. She's not likable during much of this series, and even by the end I didn't feel enough redemption from her. Their ending was also very open. Idk was kinda disappointing and Yeong Hwa would've been better off as a gay side character. Because the fact that the cafe guy with the homophobic mom loved Yeong Hwa the entire time still haunts me! Or have Dan Ah actually be a lesbian lol. Piggy backing off of that. This series felt a lot more progressive than other kdramas. Talking about sexuality (terms like asexual, lesbian, gay couple James and Bruno) and gender roles. Love it.

The movie set stuff was so much fun to watch. So was the translating stuff, it was cool to see Mi Joo speak both Korean and English. Though that director was not a good actor in this series lol dude was pretty bad. Overall the movie stuff got me and the character archs. By the end I can say I loved the mom getting a divorce was evil dad and our main couples ending was pretty satisfying. The other stuff though was meh.

True Love At It's Ugliest And Also Most Beautiful

I had watched the original version of this film wayyyy before watching this, so I basically had forgotten much of the plot. I remembered loving the idea of 2 lovers finding each other in a cute quirky way, which is walking on a streetline trying to avoid something "below" that they imagined. This is still such a unique, funny and adorable way of introducing our two main leads. It literally feels straight out of an anime/manga but adapted into real life which I loved. Though I wish they had visually represented their imagination during this sequences more, because the shark one was fantastic!

There's this real childlike innocence to Yuuki that attracts Akira from the start. Though this becomes a semi-issue later on, it carries on throughout the entirety of the story. Into their growth, sex-lives, careers. We see the story progression done so beautifully with the time jumps and it works really well! Better than I've probably seen done ever. We get so much of their lives, yet so little at the same time. It's perfection. You really grow attached to them together and individually. So when they start having their own issues, it really hurts. It's also now a fast growing apart, its rather slow and realistic. You understand why Akira kinda puts up with Yuuki's difficulties in the relationship and vice-versa because they both have so much love for each other. It's evident and people do things in their own ways to show love and affection. Like with Yuuki searching for the lighter in the dead of night.

Many watch this and become very angry or frustrated with Akira's character. But I totally understood where he was coming from at least. He grew up with a mother who engrained in his head the idea of "normalcy" or heteronormative lifestyle being the basis of livelihood. It's not easy to just unteach that, so he had to kinda live that in order to realize it wasn't what he wanted at all. He wanted Yuuki and luckily he was there waiting for him after the whole mess. It's ugly at times, but the beauty comes out as well. I loved getting to see everything and felt so proud of Akira after he stands up to his mother and fights for Yuuki. They get married, he sees his ex-wife with a new family so they both found happiness apart. It's all amazing. Then...we get to the added ending. Which WRECKED ME. It adds more to their love story and its good. However, the tears I had running down my face were so embarrassing lol. I wasn't expecting to see Akira dead in their 70s and Yuuki in the hospital waiting to die basically so they could be reunited again. Their love is forever and they walk the line again in the end to each other. Really heavy stuff and I suggest being prepared emotionally! Because damn its intense.

Love, love, loved this so much. Please watch it! Also thank you director for adding in the MODC (Make Our Days Count) cameo. That healed my soul from that series a little bit! <3

Second Chance Needs A Third Chance

So "Second Chance" both exceeded my expectations and fumbled in its execution. I don't know how that's possible lol but it happened with this! Some things were done extremely well, like if they had carried on with those things this could've been top tier material! But there's crap in between that kinda needs to be skipped while viewing and that's never a good sign.

For example. Every scene with those 3 girls made me want to scratch my eyes out and skip. They were so annoying! I don't know why they were even necessary at all. That time could've been used to further develop the couples! The 2 leads (Paper & Sky) were so freaking sweet and the side couples were adorable. Though the amount that I hated that his name was Paper....my lord lol. Also if you're trying to make me think Paper is in high school it ain't happening lol. I like the actor a lot but he does not look like a highschooler lol. Dudes literally almost 30. He is the best actor though in the series! He's such a good emotional actor and who would've known! TharnType didn't give him too much to work with.

I liked the whole idea of the one brother (Near) not knowing its his cafe boss who he's going out on a date with. That was interesting. The 2 brothers were hard af to distinguish sometimes I swear. I thought they were the same character for a hot minute. Especially because I don't think they share one single scene together until the very end! Which is weird.

The other couple are from TharnType too (Chris & Jeno), along with Paper's actor. That was funny to see them actually do couple things and be actually really upfront! Rather than play characters that are offbeat roommates. I liked the kinda plot twist of the bully being the ex. Some super internalized homophobia there. Though the bully didn't need a redemption tbh, there wasn't enough time in the show for that.

Moving onto the chemistry. I appreciate an actual kiss! A really good one from Paper and Sky! Lowkey was expecting to be a peck or some crap. The breathing was A LOT too, like hello close-ups. Their second kiss was just as good too, loved it. The secondary couples kiss during the dance was good too! I wish we had more time to develop stuff! If I've learned anything from BL's its that many of them either don't utilize time well enough or lack episode length. There are few that successfully developed everything 100%, ITSAY included. So I hope series take a page from that. Pretty music in this, like really pretty! I need the soundtrack. Again too short though, 6 eps isn't enough to get super invested. Such a good ending to this, in the acting and set up. The underwater scenes at the end were really nice too. Check this out but don't expect anything too crazy!
