Kim Soo-hyun affair: a new smear campaign? No doubt about it, the results of the investigation are coming in...

by Jessica Filluzeau

As we recently reported, the South Korean police investigation on the case involving Kim Soo-hyun and the late actress Kim Sae-ron is drawing to a close. After almost a year of controversy, the official conclusions are now expected in the next few days.
The story began in March 2025, when the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute (Gaseyeon) relayed serious accusations that Kim Soo-hyun had had a relationship with Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor. Comments attributed to the actress's family fueled a major media crisis.

The actor had quickly disputed these accusations, claiming that their relationship had taken place between summer 2019 and autumn 2020, i.e. after Kim Sae-ron had come of age, and promising to prove his innocence through legal proceedings.
Since then, the affair has developed into a complex legal and media confrontation, combining libel claims, cross-accusations and a war of opinion on social networks.

Renewed tensions as results approach
As the announcement of the conclusions draws nearer (with no precise date confirmed at this stage), tensions seem to be mounting on the deceased's side.

Several media outlets, already responsible for the high-profile coverage of the initial accusations, are once again relaying statements attributed to Kim Sae-ron's family. This dynamic raises questions, even though the investigation consisted precisely in analyzing these statements, comparing them with factual elements, and examining the content broadcast by certain YouTubers, including Garosero.

According to these publications, a member of Kim Sae-ron's family (no identity given) attempted suicide. This information comes shortly after a controversial live broadcast by YouTuber Garosero, in which similar remarks were made.

Kim Soo-hyun's firm defense reaction
These developments prompted a reaction a few days ago from Kim Soo-hyun's lawyer, Kho Sang-rock, who was concerned about a possible detour of attention at a key moment in the investigation:

«If what they've been saying so far is to be believed, the time has come for them to prove their innocence and dispel any injustice. So why the sudden suggestion of a suicide attempt at this stage?
The victim (Kim Soo-hyun) and his family have already had several brushes with death and endured extreme pressure.
Under no circumstances should the perpetrators be allowed to evoke death in an attempt to cover it up. They must be taken into custody as a matter of urgency.»

A wave of reactions on social networks
This new information quickly set social networks ablaze, with many Internet users questioning the timing and veracity of the statements relayed.

«Kim Sae-ron and his whole family are tyrants. They have invented lies and deceived the whole world. Now that the truth is about to be revealed, they'll do anything - even threaten suicide - to try to obstruct the police investigation. This family is utterly shameless.»

«People should be asking themselves: why is the family now playing the emotion and pity card? It's because the findings of the police investigation are about to be made public, and all their lies and manipulations will be exposed. If their claims are true, S doesn't need them; don't they want to restore his honor?»

“The Disappearance of the Presumption of Innocence in the Entertainment Industry: What Kim Soo-hyun Needs Is…
This article discusses how actor Kim Soo Hyun has been judged too quickly by the public before the official investigation was completed.

The author points out that many of the accusations circulating online were not supported by clear evidence and that some of the information presented contained inconsistencies, such as confusion about the locations or the actual dates of certain photos.

The article also mentions that some actions taken by the actor’s company, which were initially intended as gestures of support or mediation, were later portrayed as acts of pressure, further fueling the controversy.

At the same time, the scandal has already had serious consequences for his career, including the suspension of several important projects.

The conclusion emphasizes that, before condemning someone, the presumption of innocence should be respected and the authorities’ verdict should be awaited.

Only the establishment of the facts through the justice system can clarify the situation and put an end to speculation.

“The Disappearance of the Presumption of Innocence in the Entertainment Industry: What Kim Soo-hyun Needs Is Not ‘Self-Reflection,’ but a ‘Verdict’”

A year of stigma created by baseless accusations — what is needed now is not a “moral yardstick,” but “judicial justice.”

In the entertainment industry, “self-reflection” has at some point turned into little more than a toll that celebrities who committed wrongdoing must pay in order to buy forgiveness. It is perfectly understandable that the public becomes angry when those who clearly made mistakes calculate the length of their “self-reflection period” and quietly attempt a comeback.

However, when that same harsh blade of criticism is directed at actor Kim Soo-hyun, the logic falls into a serious error. In Kim Soo-hyun’s case, we are not yet at the stage of discussing the timing of his return. First, a fundamental question must be asked: why was he pushed off the field without even being given a fair opportunity?

The past year surrounding Kim Soo-hyun has been a cruel record of how the disappearance of the principle of the presumption of innocence can destroy a person’s life. The repeated allegations broadcast through live streams on a particular channel were sensational, but they lacked clear evidence.

During our publication’s year-long tracking of the case, one point stood out: inconsistencies in visual information presented during those revelations. The accusing side claimed that Kim Soo-hyun visited the Ilsan home of the late Kim Sae-ron when she was still a minor. However, after the actor’s agency issued a rebuttal, the location shown in the newly released footage was identified as a different residence — an officetel near Seoul Forest that Kim Sae-ron had previously revealed on television during her adult years. This raised suspicions that the allegation may have been distorted due to confusion about the location.

Furthermore, photos presented by the accusing side as “records from her minor years” were countered by Kim Soo-hyun’s agency using metadata from the digital files (which record the date and time the images were taken). According to that data, the photos were actually taken after both individuals were adults.

These conflicts between the allegations and objective data were enough to raise reasonable doubts as to whether the claims were based on factual truth.

There are also additional circumstances. After Kim Sae-ron’s past drunk-driving accident, the company paid the compensation on her behalf. When her exclusive contract later ended, the company reportedly allowed her to repay the debt gradually, considering her financial difficulties.

Additionally, after sending a formal notice to preserve the claim, the actor and the company responded actively and attempted to mediate following messages sent by the late actress.

Nevertheless, the accusing side framed these actions as pressure that allegedly pushed her toward death. Despite the fact that the issue had already been discussed and resolved through communication with the actress’s agency at the time, presenting those past actions as a cause of the tragedy has been criticized as another distortion of facts and a form of violence.

These reckless allegations did not merely damage the actor’s image. They also led to the suspension of production for the large-scale project “Knock-Off,” reportedly worth 60 billion won.

This project has become a symbol of how unverified allegations can paralyze a system and render the efforts of numerous staff members meaningless.

After creating a cultural phenomenon with the drama “Queen of Tears,” which reaffirmed his unique presence, “Knock-Off” was expected to be the next major success in his career.

The situation can be likened to a decisive moment in baseball: bottom of the ninth inning, two outs, bases loaded, with the cleanup hitter ready to end the game.

Yet before the ball was even thrown, a wave of unverified suspicions and questionable judgments forced him off the field.

The year he endured was not a period of “self-reflection,” but rather a lonely struggle to clear away distorted circumstances.

Some criticize his actions, but such views ignore the essence of the case. The ongoing criminal investigation is the only legal process capable of establishing the factual truth.

The problem is that as the judicial decision is delayed, the resulting vacuum is being filled with unverified accusations and speculation.

Ultimately, only a clear judgment from investigative authorities can end this exhausting controversy and restart the halted game.

Moral standards gain legitimacy only when they are based on clear facts. Treating an actor as a “potential criminal” based solely on unverified allegations and measuring the length of his “self-reflection” is itself another form of violence.

The suspension of the project “Knock-Off” can hardly be explained as a cautious “moral decision” by a platform. Rather, it reflects the cowardice of a content market that has been shaken by unverified accusations.

What society needs today is not empty slogans, but the rational patience to wait until the truth is established.

A mistaken judgment can be corrected, but a reputation unjustly torn apart cannot easily be restored, even after the investigation ends.

That is why the clear “verdict” of judicial authorities must come first. What is needed now is not the boos of spectators, but a fair ruling that will determine whether the cleanup hitter returns to the field or must step back in reflection.

That is the minimum common sense society should uphold.

If I remember correctly, at the press conference held by Kim Soo Hyun, a recording was played between the CEO…
In fact, KSR's manager made public the messages between him and the deceased and proved that the deceased indeed knew about the discussion between him and the manager at Gold Medalist and knew that requesting the borrowed amount was just a normal procedure to avoid being accused of fraud because the money had been borrowed by the Gold Medalist company.
The same messages revealed by the deceased's manager also confirm her unstable mental state, her family's indifference, and marital problems. These complement what Kim Soo Hyun said and are further proof that KSH was telling the truth.

On January 15, Kim Sae-ron sent a text message to her ex-boyfriend K saying:“I’m sorry. Just curse at me—call…
“Indifference from family members with whom ties were nearly severed — Kim Sae-ron had nowhere to rely on.”

According to K, Kim Sae-ron suffered the most because of her family’s indifference and often felt despair about her situation. On November 1, 2024, Kim Sae-ron severely injured herself, cutting the ligaments in her wrist and requiring emergency surgery. However, even after being contacted, none of her family members showed up. K stayed in the hospital room with her until she was discharged, and the hospital expenses were paid by a representative from her agency at the time.

Regarding this, K said:
“Right after Sae-ron was discharged, I took her straight home. Her mother was calmly having a meal with an acquaintance and didn’t seem surprised or show any sign of empathy for what her daughter had gone through. Because of her family’s attitude like this, Sae-ron always wanted to run away somewhere.”

He also added:
“How could it be that none of the family members knew their daughter had gotten married? I can understand it in a way. The fact that no one in the family knew Kim Sae-ron had married the man from New York is proof that there was almost no communication with their daughter. Yet now, after practically cutting ties and showing little interest while she was alive, they are bringing up a relationship she had years ago with a famous actor after she has already passed away. That cannot be explained unless there is some other intention or purpose behind it. I have never met the actor Kim Soo-hyun, but I think it must be very unfair for him to be taking the blame simply because he is famous.”

To support the credibility of his report and testimony, K personally wrote a statement of facts, including his name, resident registration number, and fingerprint seal. He also described in detail the situation when Kim Sae-ron was treated in the emergency room of D Hospital in Gangnam, Seoul, after her self-harm incident. K recorded the account as well in order to preserve it as evidence.

He also revealed an audio recording of a conversation Kim Sae-ron had with an acquaintance at the time, in which she said:
“My arm ligaments and tendons are all torn. It’s serious, so I need surgery, but it’s not covered by insurance, and I need about 5 million won.”

This reveals her situation at the time: even in a life-threatening and urgent moment, Kim Sae-ron did not contact her family but instead relied on acquaintances for help.

This article presented a clear perspective on how things really were from the beginning, bringing first-hand testimonies…
On January 15, Kim Sae-ron sent a text message to her ex-boyfriend K saying:
“I’m sorry. Just curse at me—call me a bastard, a crazy b****, say I’m mentally ill. I keep getting cursed at and beaten, but nothing changes,” revealing that she had been assaulted.

She also confessed her feelings, writing, “If you can just be happy, I don’t need dreams or anything else. I loved you more than anyone in this world.”

She then explained how she came to meet and marry the man from New York. Kim Sae-ron said:
“I started seeing him in November. At first there was no real expression of feelings, and you were always going through difficult days, and the fact that I couldn’t rely on you made me feel very lonely. It’s true that I lost focus for a moment. I needed someone who would always listen to me and help solve my problems. But that was only for a short time. After that, he threatened to leak photos and our KakaoTalk messages, hacked my Instagram and posted pictures, hit me, and cursed at me. I was very scared. That’s why I couldn’t break up with him, and I was afraid it might bring harm to you.”

This article presented a clear perspective on how things really were from the beginning, bringing first-hand testimonies and trying to clarify aspects that were distorted in the public space.
It is worth remembering and emphasizing this important point.

[Exclusive] Testimony of late Kim Sae-ron’s ex-boyfriend: “Sae-ron’s death has nothing to do with Kim Soo-hyun”

“I know that Sae-ron’s death was not because of actor Kim Soo-hyun. I am very upset because there are too many parts of the truth that have been hidden. Even just to soothe Sae-ron’s soul, I want to reveal at least some of the truth to the world.”

Around the late Kim Sae-ron, countless speculations and assumptions have been circulating. The truth is mixed and confusing, and various distorted claims are spreading in all directions. While the dispute over the truth—related to her former agency, the official notice regarding repayment of a 700 million won debt, and her relationships—remains unclear, suspicions have grown that there may be some hidden intentions behind these controversies. Naturally, people cannot help but wonder what the real reason was that led to her death.

The deceased cannot speak. decided to investigate what Kim Sae-ron really struggled with during her life, based on the information and testimony of her ex-boyfriend K, with whom she communicated and sought emotional support until shortly before her death.

He stated, “Sae-ron, who has already left this world, would not want the cause of her death to be distorted differently from reality.”

Met in November, married at the beginning of the year; New York man’s verbal and physical abuse: “She lost hope in life”

Until shortly before her death, Kim Sae-ron reportedly endured painful days caught in a “triangle” between two men: her ex-boyfriend K and a man from New York (her husband), whom she married at the beginning of the year.
After marriage, during a difficult period, Kim Sae-ron reportedly tried to maintain contact with her ex-boyfriend for emotional support. Upon discovering this, the man from New York confiscated her phone to monitor her and frequently subjected her to verbal abuse. Although she had broken up with her ex-boyfriend when she began her relationship with the New York man, she appears to have reached out again due to the hardships she was facing.

“You got married, so stop contacting other men. Live your miserable life and clean up your own mess, idiot.”
(January 13, text message sent by the New York man to Kim Sae-ron)
During this process, Kim Sae-ron reportedly experienced repeated mental confusion and attempted self-harm multiple times.

According to the testimony, the suffering she endured was not caused by debt repayment or her past relationship with Kim Soo-hyun. The official notice regarding the 700 million won debt repayment had already been issued a year earlier and was merely a formal measure by her former agency; evidence suggests that even Kim Sae-ron herself did not feel a real obligation to return the amount.

We are all waiting for the release of Knock-Off, convinced that it will be a guaranteed success. I understand that there are already talks about an international release, and if this happens, it is clear that nothing will overshadow its success. As someone wrote, "this drama is destined to be a success", and it will be at the same time, a well-deserved reward for all the suffering that Kim Soo-hyun has gone through. Everything will have a happy ending because the truth cannot be manipulated endlessly

I don't really understand the hate for this drama. It was an enjoyable drama. Why would anyone bother writing…
Haters hate because that's their nature. Anyway, I agree with you: when you don't like something, you don't need to write long paragraphs to prove it. To me, such behaviors only show how much hate they have inside. They will end up being overwhelmed by their own negativity, and we will enjoy this wonderful drama and wonderful actors.

There has already been enough injustice done to Kim Soo Hyun. It is time for things to be judged fairly, based on the truth, not fabricated stories and irresponsible speculation. It is not right for someone to be condemned in public without evidence, without a legal conclusion, and especially without a real opportunity to defend themselves, just because rumors end up taking the place of facts.

https://www.frame-less.co.kr/news/articleView.html 2idxno-2304

The article argues that unfinished and prolonged investigations function as a form of punishment in themselves, creating what the author calls a “social death sentence.” Seo In criticizes investigative authorities for leaving cases unresolved for long periods, during which suspects are neither indicted nor cleared, yet remain publicly stigmatized.

The author explains that in such situations, the legal system effectively abdicates its responsibility, allowing media coverage, online discourse, and rumors to take over the role of judge and jury. Even without formal charges, individuals suffer irreversible damage to their careers, finances, and personal lives.

A central concern raised is the collapse of the presumption of innocence. When investigations stretch on without conclusions, society begins to treat “being investigated” as equivalent to guilt. Seo In emphasizes that this dynamic is particularly brutal in South Korea’s digital environment, where allegations spread rapidly and are rarely corrected with the same intensity if a case stalls or ends quietly.

The article also criticizes the lack of accountability for investigative delays. While suspects bear the full social cost, institutions face no meaningful consequences for inaction or inefficiency. This imbalance, the author argues, undermines public trust in justice and turns time itself into a weapon.

Seo In concludes that justice delayed is not neutral: it actively produces victims. Without timely conclusions, either indictment or exoneration, investigations become a mechanism of social execution rather than a path to truth.

You are absolutely right. Kim Soo Hyun is truly a remarkable person, and QOT is a drama of undeniable quality. Unfortunately, there are voices that attempt to diminish its value through inappropriate comments. I encourage everyone interested in this drama not to be influenced by such opinions, as it is a drama well worth watching.

None of the evidence used to accuse Kim Soo Hyun was ever submitted to the police. The reason is clear: if it had been submitted, these materials would have immediately become evidence against those who presented them. Naturally, the decision not to forward them to the authorities reflects an awareness of the legal consequences that would have arisen for the accusers themselves.

Its crazy how everyone liked him and now everyone hate him, i hope we will know the full story when the court…
Contrary to what one might think, he continues to be loved by a large and dedicated audience. The difference is that his supporters do not feel the need to create dozens of fake accounts or display aggression online, as professional haters do. Their impact, however, is visible through concrete gestures: the flowers that grow for him on MDL, the trucks with supportive messages, the luminous advertisements on the buildings in Seoul, and the billboards in subway stations, including those in Gangnam. It is impossible for all of these to be financially supported by just a few people; they reflect the respect and appreciation of an impressive number of fans who choose to be discreet but consistent. Thus, although professional haters are louder and more aggressive, true support remains visible and significant, expressed through subtle but real gestures.

Yeah....excel sheet tempered with dates are called forensics now. Do you even know that forensic data cannot be…
Another article completely disconnected from reality and with no relation to Kim Soo-hyun. It is clearly a desperate move by the family, trying to manipulate public opinion.

✅ 1. The columns are misaligned and poorly formatted
In a real forensic report:
• The columns are generated automatically and are perfectly aligned.
• There are no visual jumps or “crooked” blocks.

• The left column (where names or IDs would go) has rectangles of different sizes and none are properly aligned.
• The horizontal lines between messages look manually pasted, not generated by professional software.

This is a clear sign of manual editing or artificial composition.

✅ 2. Different typefaces in the same table
A real analysis uses a single typeface for everything: messages, dates, headers.
Here there are:
• fonts that change in thickness,
• letters with different spacing,
• sizes that don’t match within the same text block.

This usually happens when text is copied/pasted from different screenshots or transcripts.

✅ 3. The timestamps on the right side have clear anomalies
Observing the date and time column:
Messages appear at 15:57:41, 15:57:14, 15:57:26, 15:57:18, 15:57:15… all almost at the same time.

This is extremely unlikely in real conversations and even more in forensic reports, because:
• KakaoTalk records each message in chronological order,
• forensic tools export the exact sequence, without mixing or repeating times.

Additionally:
There is a sudden jump downward: 15:58 → 13:46

A forensic report never reorders messages; it always displays them in ascending or descending chronological order.

This indicates that the messages were arranged manually and do not come from a real extraction.

✅ 4. The header is not professional
True forensic reports include:
• the tool’s logo (Cellebrite, Oxygen, XRY, Magnet AXIOM)
• case number
• MD5/SHA-256 hash
• type of extraction (logical, filesystem, physical)
• examined device
• serial number

In document:
• None of that is present.
• There is only a plain text title, with an amateur style.

A real report would never look like that.

✅ 5. The mix of Korean + translated text is very suspicious
In an authentic report:
• The original text is shown exactly as extracted.
• If a translation exists, it appears in a separate section — never mixed, never redesigned.

Here:
• the Korean part looks natural,
• but the translation from the previous document (English) does not match this structure,
• it gives the impression that two different people edited two different documents.

Sign of montage.
Sign of montage.

✅ 6. Inconsistent margins and proportions
Comparing sections:
• The central table has a different border from the timestamp box border.
• The side margins do not match each other.
• There are cuts where the image seems stitched from several different screenshots.

This happens when documents are assembled from multiple images or texts.

Based on all the points above:
This document shows multiple signs of manipulation, montage, and manual editing. It does not match at all the format, structure, or consistency of a real forensic analysis.

It is not just “suspicious”: it is practically impossible for it to be a legitimate forensic report.
