I'm not sure either....I can think of a few ways that they may imply though...
1. The room was only lit for the cameras and we were supposed to 'believe' it was dark. 2. Shen was 'high' on the pheromones and not seeing/thinking clearly enough. (this is probably what I would go with if I was the production team/writers) 3. Shen 'knows' that Gu Tao is a Beta so he doesn't associate him with an Omega, so even if he did see part of him that night he just has a mental disconnect. 4. Shen is stupidly dense. (I like this option as well)

Basically the pheromones CAN be like date rape drugs I think. (another reason I don't typically like omegaverse...but I like this show)
So, Gao Tu is (in essence) running around spraying his date rape drugs in the air messing with all the alphas. That's why @zchlllnnn said that by omegaverse rules it's Gao Tu's fault.

I must confess I have a problem with the premise though... he just up and leaves his boyfriend after some rando girl calls his boyfriend's phone and says she's pregnant with his boyfriend's kid....doesn't bother to find out anything else... What if she got the wrong number... Or maybe she's a psycho who just likes lying to people...
For example(100% true story from when I was a teenager) My older brother once went out with the most fertile girl on Earth... she apparently got pregnant constantly but when my mother demanded that she go to the doctor and get proof she claimed the doctor made her abort it... but the doctor said that he didn't think she was even able to get pregnant....
Psychos are real is all I'm saying with this true story...
So, unless he already had issues with his boyfriend constantly lying to him and cheating on him he should have at least investigated it.

I have not read the book. But so far my take on it (as of Ep 5) is that yes he loves Gao Tu, he doesn't really hate omegas. He just wants Gao Tu and refuses to accept anyone else... which leads to him 'hating omegas' publicly. Kind of an if I can't have him then I won't have anyone kind of thing! I don't know. It was a thing for the 2014 version, the 2024 version changed Aim from a promiscuous girl who cheats on Phun regularly to a lesbian. NOTE: Phun and Aim did have sex(regularly) in the 2014 version...but I'm thinking they did not in the 2024 version. When I originally watched the 2014 version I really disliked Phun for the entire waiting so long to break it off with Aim thing. I've never read the book, but just from the series I think they changed her to a lesbian to make the breakup more clean and acceptable (something like they were both gay and should have never been together anyway kind of thing).
