Well, I started alone, and studied half a year, then I found a teacher, I still study with her, it's been already 2 years, and yes I can speak Japanese. A daily conversation, hello-goodbye-introduction-weather... are not a problem, and recently I've started studying in my professional sphere - International Relations, we took a book that introduces how to read and understand news and newspapers.
We can speak Japanese freely anytime ^^
