I pity anyone who skipped Bed Friend and is viewing this cast or characters for the first time. I had to double check if these are the same writers and director. Sure enough they are the same. So what accounts for the disparity between the two? In Bed Friend the characters including Jade had more depth. I get that they wanted to make this instalment lean more towards comedy as Bed Friend dealt with some heavy issues but this is going overboard. I don't mind a lot of cringe but here it comes off annoying. Take Secret Crush On You for example. I would argue that it is even cringier than this is but they made it work and it was enjoyable to watch for me at least. Better examples can be found in Japanese productions. They've really mastered the art. I dropped for now but I'd love to check back and hear that it has improved and pick it back up.
P.S. I only just realized that Cheewin directed both series. I'm actually a fan of his work and I think some of them are very underrated but this one so far pretty much deserves the rating it has.
