I don't this historical is a criteria in being versatile. Being versatile mean an actor perform as hero, villan, anti-hero, side character, serious, funny, romantic, genius, clumsy, cringe and kind of roles what does historical have to do with it.
Yeah Chinese version was great but Korean version is not even released yet so you should not decide yet. Comparing with 40 episodes isn't a big deal Chinese dramas episodes are 40-45 minutes long and while kdramas are 60-70 minutes and may slow or flashback scenes can be removed. And most of all the director has also directed 25 21 so you can rely on director instead of someone from the cast.
