It was the empress dowager. The emperor didn’t poison him. In fact, his kindness and love for the crown prince are sincere. But, he is doing it out of guilt because he is not XHY’s biological father. The emperor killed his brother to take the throne and XHY was his brother’s child. So he felt guilt towards him and that’s why he cares sm about him. In the end, XHY found out about it and still chose to protect the emperor by taking a fatal blow.
