I don't understand how ML's biological father can hate his son so much. Finished episode 12 and the only conclusion I can come up to is that ML might have been an adopted son who isn't really blood related to any of them. In any case, he is the worst father ever, how can he do that to his own son.
This drama has its own pleasing cinematography, usually prefer darker tones but for some reason I am drawn to the style of lighting and color tones that set this drama here. Almost every scene between the leads has that fairytale like sort of effect. I think my favorite is the mask scene during their first encounter.

Glad am not the only one who shares this exact same sentiment. Director tried to please everyone by giving these interpretational relationship dynamics and in doing so, lost the concrete and developmental ground for these said relationships, especially with the main leads supposed love line - it's subtle and deep but it still feels unsatisfying. It is lacking in these aspects, not to mention the questionable treatment towards Yinglei in certain scenes where he was excluded in a dialogue.

Finished this drama in october but only got to write an official review now. I think this is Esther's best role to date yet. I loved her lighter roles but I think she really stoods out more with darker roles like here. She suits this wuxia spy assasin stuff more than the cutesy (she's cute and all) but I wish to see more of her roles as serious, mysterious, strong and dark as this. As for Zhang Ling He, his visuals are insane and I liked his acting here although I didn't like much of how weak he was portrayed but thankfully in latter he became powerful. This is a decent drama, I do recommend it. Just skip the ending and act like it never happened and this is all good.
