This is not a serious republican drama. the plot is like those reel shorts type shows and focuses on the romance while those serious dramas you’re comparing it to focus on politics around the time. I can promise you they haven’t gained even a sliver of critical acclaim/respect in China from this - they may have even lost what they already had 😭 they both deserve way better than this mess.

you should watch faithful! that’s where I first saw him and even though he isn’t the main character he did a great job with his role!

loll me too today’s episode wasn’t my favourite I was wondering if I just wasn’t in the mood for it but it might just be questionable writing

large age gaps are fine for on screen couples (even some that might be weird if it were a real life couple) but they should both at least be adults in my opinion.

legal ≠ moral/ethical however so this comment doesn’t add much to the convo. I haven’t seen people question the legality of this casting only the ethics.

she couldn’t land lead roles because she’s a child? and she shouldn’t even be playing this role despite her talent as 16 and 28 shouldn’t be normalised.
