They're free to hate it just as you are free to hate the 'garbage shows' they like :) I think some of the hate is pushback against how much hype and praise the show got whilst being mediocre in their eyes.

Up to episode four at the moment and I'm still not enjoying it. I like this sort of genre and setting but the story isn't at all interesting so far. I do think a lot of the criticism is biased because of the controversy though.
