Episode 7 made me think we would see some positive development, but if anything, it taught me to never ever have expectations. Episode i only served to make me effing angry and want to curse at everyone. F this show.

The show was okay, not outstanding. They had a really great start and I had come to anticipate every new episode, but about halfway through it started getting so... repetitive and bland, and messy. I mean, I like messy, but when it's done right. It felt a bit shallow on my perspective. They could have dug deeper into the characters individually, into relationships, the dynamics, but they didn't, sadly. Our girls did well with what they had, though, so kudos for that.

The nuance in this episode legit made me cry. The gradual shift in Sun's cognition, trying to recognise himself outside the role of a martyr, admitting he still has things he wants, people he loves and care about, and his feelings. The way it was portrayed was so beautiful, so well crafted. They did such a superb job. And the rooftop scene with the director, the jump, the inner monologue. It was fantastic. I have no words.

Little Jane, my friend, my pal, beloved... do you really not notice the patterns? Homeboy LITERALLY followed the same steps as Big Jane and you REALLY can't see his manipulating you? Both Dan and Put trash. Not gonna defend Big Jane either, homeboy did some effed up stuff in this episode as well. In the end I just wish Little Jane could have been a little bit smarter. For someone who claims to hate being manipulated the most, he sure is naive. Especially considering he had "previous experience", so to speak. Smh.

I'm a bit on the fence about the first episode. There were some parts that felt very forced in a way. The acting is not entirely bad, per se, but I don't know, I couldn't really get too into it. I mostly wanted to watch because of Leng and August, also because I loved Love Upon a Time, but meh. It feels like a bit of a downgrade for now.

He is not making anyone's lives worse, they are doing that themselves. Again using Tee as an example. What he asked for was the Council President position, what he does with the position is his own decision, if he stole money, it was his own decision. What does Big Jane has to do with it. How did he force Tee to steal that money? And seriously, getting involved with someone who everyone says is bad news, dangerous, evil for a Student Council President position... nah. Can't defend Tee, he is responsible for his own decisions, and going to jail is a consequence of his own actions. Big Jane has no blame in this. He gave the dude what he wanted, dude decided to break the contract, so he paid his due. Still not Big Jane's fault. He is not ruining anyone's lives, people's own greed and desires are doing that on their own.

He will undergo a change soon, but I understand your frustration. It was painful for me to watch as well.

He is not asking anything of substance from Big Jane. He is not letting Big Jane explain anything. He is not even testing his supposed right to ask anything he wants and get the truth. He is only going around collecting rumours, lying to Big Jane to his face and doing investigation behind his back. Just because the premise of the show says Big Jane is the big bad, doesn't mean that everyone else is telling the truth, everyone else is innocent, everyone else is a victim. He refused to help Jui, but why does he have to help her? Who knows if it's to keep Tee in jail. Would getting out of jail mean Tee takes his Council President title back? Would he get anything aside from his freedom? Logically speaking, Big Jane has no reason to try to prevent him from getting out of jail. Maybe he simply, as he said, thinks Jui deserves what she is getting for cheating on her boyfriend and stealing his money. Just because he can, doesn't me he has to get involved in it. If everyone can go behind his back talking bs to Little Jane, why can't he confront people about butting into his relationship?

Trying to trust him by literally giving him no chance to defend himself, not asking his side of the story, not asking the questions he really wants the answers for. Sure, Jan, we been seeing how hard you've been trying. ––'

Nah, I'm stressed. Little Jane never asks what he wants to know, he always listens to others and then takes their words at face value. He is suspicious, wary? Okay, I agree with that, I would be as well, but hey, maybe ask for Big Jane's version first, then fact check his story. I see everyone playing the victim, Jui, Tee, but they still simply want to transfer blame to a third party. Big Jane asks what people want, asks what they are willing to give for it, it's a contract, if you don't honour it, there is bound to be punishment. Try to break a contract and paint the other party as the villain and see if that gets you anywhere. It just doesn't make sense. And why Little Jane getting so dang involved? If you don't feel safe with the dude, can't trust anything he says, then stay the eff away. Why do all this? Why keep meeting him? He never tries to get his side of the story and always accepts other people's side. It's so frustrating.

Big Jane is obsessive, but like, he does stay away from Little Jane when he asks him to leave him alone. We saw that in the pilot as well. He at least respected that, but the twists of fate put Little Jane in that situation, and as someone who's clearly not all that good in the head, Big Jane was bound to act up. I'm not defending him in this, but his views on human relationships is skewed, so I believe he doesn't even know how a healthy relationship should be.

In the novel he warns people again and again that if they take the deal, the payment will be something heavy, he gives them many chances to back away, but they still choose to go through. Whether out of desperation or greed, it doesn't matter, they always know what they're doing, know they probably won't afford to pay, and take it anyway, then go around and want to act like victims. What Big Jane does is very questionable, morally, he is like a true Devil, but people want to take shortcuts through him and then start with their hypocritical tirade when they get screwed over.

This is problematic in such a cute way. I'm well aware of all the issues with the story, but having read the novel back in the days, I still have some fondness for it.

This show makes me realise that I probably have issues. LMFAO. I be here thinking that it's people's own damn fault that they get screwed over. They made the deal fully knowing what they were getting involved in, but then they want to turn around and act like victims. Like, you knew what you were doing, fam. You knew he was bad news. *shrug*.

That scene had me so stressed out! Like BRO!!!!!!! YOU'RE IN A CLASSROOM TAKING AN EXAM. STOP EDGING!!!

She was too violent. That's partially why I said that this beating was more about herself than it was about what he did. She was punishing him for having the self-worth she doesn't dare to have.

I got super angry when she was beating him. Especially because of her words. It was like she was taking out her fear on him. And then when they showed us the wounds on his back all I wanted to do was hug and comfort him.

Hahaha I tend to deep dive into the mentality of characters sometimes, but I'm open to being proven wrong in the future. I hope you enjoy the show as well! Thank you! ❤️

I disagree in certain points. For me, she has gotten so used to this prison she created for herself, she can't stand her son trying to seek his freedom. She is scared of the unknown, and isn't confident to take charge of her own life, and because of that, she is envious of her son and his courage to be himself, to aim higher, to have a sense of self-worth. And thus she tries to restrain him, to clip his wings. It's mostly a projection of her own insecurity.

Look, I understand the views of the mother, and the context of those times, but like her own son said, slavery had been abolished there. One thing is wanting him to respect those he works for, another thing is wanting him to have no sense of self-worth and not even see himself as a human being.
