Plus, dialogues in this episode and secy's answers were such major red flags. How can a son embezzle and die while a secy continues working at a meagre salary and yet support family in USA

well.. i guess to each his own.. i don't think character is a problem at all.. everyone else has managed to turn their characters endearing.. youth love story has nothing special but actors make it work.. and so on with other side characters (e.g. the villain adult SFL or the cheerful best friend teacher...)

i don't think being comedic vs angsty is the problem... there is zero chemistry between main actors... and it is fitment to the role which Yumi as an actress is failing at
I am sorry but Yumi is totally failing in this drama...
Initially adult story was not as good.. but now after 5 ep.. i can say adult ML is doing his job.. his scenes are good.. but there is no chemistry between him and Yumi.. and Yumi's scenes are so early 2000 kdrama FL coded (with her acting)... that it becomes boring
Han Hyo Joo would have been good in this role.. or i don't know.. someone who had chemistry with JJ

Potentially, parents were killed in planned car accident and not random accident.
Worse would be if ML's dad had anything to do with it
they should not be cursed to not win just because they are the best
